Here some news from Austria about wearing mandatory masks in shops,
If you can't read German, just hit Translate on upper right.
https://www.derstandard.at …oronavirus-massnahmen-vor (external link)

Everyone needing to wear a mask assumes that the supply of masks is large enough to both supply A) healthcare providers primarily and B) the general public secondary.

In the US, we have not had enough for A, so it is inappropriate to demand B yet.
Not to say that B is not truly necessary...but to deprive the first line of defense and put them at risk is irresponsible and foolish.

Hmmm...wonder if each person had their own sponge? Or was the sponge community shared? :-(

I didn't see any names on them and they where washed in a bucket of salt water. I guess it depends on how often the operator changed water.

What else...camera gear!

A Canon R5 and a bunch of new RF lenses. $1,000 for new set of RF TC’s. The money you save and a bank loan will cover that nicely. Canon will do well reinventing itself ;-)a

I'm not really that motivated to buy camera gear right now because my photographic activities usually go with travel.

Maybe a nice new computer...

Canon R5 and R7, assorted Canon lenses, Sony RX100, Pentax Spotmatic F

Looks as if our original run on TP has abated as both stores we visited this weekend were supplied. Paper towels still seem scarce though.

I work for a large transportation agency. Our bathrooms have the large Kimberly-Clark rolls of toilet paper.
A janitor told me he put a box of TP in the storage room. He noticed some rolls missing the next day.
After 3 or 4 days the box was empty.

He also told me at downtown headquarters a janitor and his supervisor were both fired for stealing TP.
Two people lost very good jobs (pay/benefits) for doing something stupid.

When you see my camera gear you'll think I'm a pro.
When you see my photos you'll know that I'm not.

Hehe, I like the way you're thinking. With Quebec having suspended student loan payments+interest accrual for six months, and my working from home for the next little while (making it easier to take delivery), I've ordered myself the nice 32" 4K monitor I'd been eyeing on Amazon for the last little while (got the last one they had in stock for a tidy discount). Should be here by Monday... and not a moment too soon, since with my current monitor I'm just tired of looking at way too much bezel ;) Quite the frivolous statement to be making in the current circumstances, I know  Even in this crisis, I can continue to feel privileged, and spending money I could otherwise (easily?!? no) save is how I'm trying to contribute to the upkeep of the almighty Economy (with a deliberate misguided capital letter) :p

And, 4) if you have an old fashioned analog land line (not the modern VOIP service offered via phone company's digital service) when power is lost to an entire area, your phone STILL WORKS!

Here in NorCal, when PG&E shut off power to prevent fires from arcing equipment, PG&E’s blackouts also cut off thousands of Californians from cell phone service, leaving them unable to get emergency alerts or call 911. A report prepared by the Federal Communications Commission reveals that at least 874 of the state’s cell sites were out on Monday, up from 630 on Sunday, when fires broke out all around the Bay Area. In Marin County, more than half — 57.1 percent – of sites weren’t working.

Having an analog landline was not a guarantee of service, in this deliberate system wide shutdown across very large areas. In addition, more than 454,722 subscribers with landline phones, cable television or Internet also lost service due to power shutoffs, according to the FCC report.

Very true Wilt about the old fashion POTS line and hardware still having power. Power comes from the phone company Central Office which has huge banks of batteries along with humongous diesel generators. We have several of the old style sets in addition to our smartphones.

My old POTS line phone went out all the time, the audio quality was crappy and it was a long distance everywhere, it required dialing 11 digits to call my neighbor. It was a bargain at only $50 for the base rate, I use Ooma now and if it goes down I have my cellphone for backup, Ooma is less than $5 a month.

Sorry to hear that. Was it a really cheap phone set or bad network service from the local phone company?

Rural area, too far from a switch and probably not well maintained, I would lose service completely for multiple days at a time.

I'd like to believe, but the source just doesn't look trustworthy to me. It still all sounds too good to be true. And, imo, too much good testing is false security. You can test negative and still cross the street and get infected if you're not careful. What we need to do is to kick this virus as a global collective, not just ensure our own personal safety and/or build reliable statistics because "evidence".
