I've always got mine from Amazon. So far, so good.
Even with Amazon, you need to be careful, and as you say "So far, so good."
Even Amazon will tell you that “Fulfilled by Amazon” simply means that the product is being shipped from an Amazon warehouse to you after being sold by a third-party seller. Here's an interesting scenario; Amazon warehouse "W" stocks a Lexar 64GB card that is provided by 20 different sellers. All these sellers sell the exact same product as far as labeling. Do you think Amazon has 20 different bins in the warehouse? I've been told "no", that the cards from all 20 vendors go into one bin. You order a card from vendor X, the robot picks a card from the bin; you order from vendor Y, a robot picks a card from the same bin. But what if vendor X supplied genuine cards and vendor Y fake cards. No one knows until the buyer gets a card and either detects a fault or actually tests the card for capacity and speed.
In theory, to be more confident of your purchase, make sure your purchase is labeled “Ships from and sold by Amazon.com,” which means Amazon is directly selling a product without a third-party seller involved. Can you trust this statement from Amazon. Personally I'm not sure. By the way, if you print the Amazon page that clearly states "Ships from and sold by Amazon.com" and take it to Best Buy, they will price match. Staples will as well, depending on the product. They will not price match a product labeled as "Fulfilled by Amazon."
