The only achromat lenses I can find are the Marumi (external link), I don't know if anyone has tried these.

Although I have plenty of macro lenses I was thinking of getting a closeup filter for casual/low light use.

Anyone know this make or recommendations for achromat lenses?

I had none achromat lens in my film days, I don't want to go that route again.

Nikon and Canon both offer two-element close-up lenses, and performance is said to be better than single-element close-up lenses.

I know from previous experience the Canon filters had very minimal AR coatings, I would presume unless told otherwise the closeup lenses would be the same.

Can't go wrong with Raynox "Raynox are highly corrected, 3 and 4 element achromatic multicoated lenses" DCR-250 is the most popular and should come with adapter for 52-67mm lenses (pinch system)

Raynox lenses are sold in local camera stores here in Canada, and are also available on Amazon. Their web page gives possibilities for the UK.

Lester, you may know this already, but for anyone wondering, the Raynox DCR-250 comprises a lens and a clippy mounting device that are normally put together. This assembly is mounted on the end of the camera's lens. The clip grabs the insides of the threads of the lenses with little spring-loaded protrusions.

The bare Raynox lens has a thread size of 43mm and a filter size of 49mm. The glass has a diameter of about 35mm. I don't use the plastic clip but use the bare Raynox on my Canon 100mmL because the clip would interfere with my diffuser. It is not easy to find the right step-down rings to do this!

The lens is 8 diopter and is "2.5x power." On my 100mm macro it gives around 2.1X magnification when the 100mm is set to 1:1.

I have not had much opportunity to use the lens yet because it is still winter here! So I can't give my impressions on image quality.

There is more info here. http://extreme-macro.co.uk/raynox-adapter-techniques/ (external link)
