We have two Canon T3/1100D; one bought brand-new December 2013, and one bought second-hand July 2014.
Both of these T3 came with identical Canon EF-S 18–55mm lens.
Properly identifying these lens has proved harder than one would think; according to wikipedia, there have been nine iterations of this lens.
The lens we have are 58mm filter-thread.
At 18mm, the barrel is extended about 3/8-inch; it retracts all the way at about 30mm, then extends to about 1/2-inch at 55mm.
The markings are 18, 24, 35, and 55.
Two switches, "STABILIZER" and "AF MF"
Around the barrel, closest to the camera mount, "EFS 18-55mm IMAGE STABILIZER MACRO 0.25m/0.8ft" ; next beyond, very faint and barely legible, is what appears to be a serial number "8306063405" ; at least that is what it looks like through a strong pair of reading glasses and a good magnifying glass; I am assuming that number on the other lens is different.
How do I properly identify this lens in this fashion " Canon EF-S 18–55mm lens f/3.5–5.6 etc., etc." ?
I have these designations to choose from:
I USM (discontinued)
I (discontinued)
II USM (discontinued)
II (discontinued)
IS (discontinued)
IS II (current)
III (current)
IS STM (current)
f/4-5.6 IS STM (current)
Thanks for reading and all help is appreciated.
