The title says it all. DXO Photolab Elite 3.2 is my preferred post processing software, and I'm proud to be one of their beta testers.

digitalparadise Awaiting the title ferry... More info | Apr 15, 2020 14:56 | #2 Good for them. Definitely shines at higher ISO's, especially in shadows. I own it but still like to work with LR because at lower ISO's it is a close match. It will more than likely be my back up if ever drop LR. Image Editing OK

I strongly recommend that anyone interested in getting the best that PhotoLab has to offer should consider purchasing the more expensive Elite version rather the the Essential version. The Elite version has everything the Essential version has plus their best in class PRIME noise reduction, ClearView Plus haze removal and clarity tool, and a fully configurable interface. I also suggest the purchase of Viewpoint 3 which is both a standalone and PhotoLab plug-in perspective tool. And finally there is DXO's FilmPack 5 Elite. While some may think it is primarily film emulation software, it is so much more, adding a number of useful tools to the PhotoLab feature set.. Mark

DXOPL3 elite with the two add-on programs mentioned by mwsilver together make for a very powerful RAW processor. Be sure to get the more expensive elite versions. This suite of programs is my favorite processor hands down! Mark

I did purchase Viewpoint 3, but to be honest I have never delved into it. While I purchased PhotoLab initially just as a replacement for Lightroom to process my Canon RAW files, I have been using it the past few weeks on another project -- scanning and digitizing my late father's 35mm slides. I purchased an Epson V600 for the project (and to replace my failing Canon LIDE 200 scanner), and use Espon's included Epson Scan software for the initial scan to a 48-bit color, 2400dpi uncompressed TIFF file. I then use PL3 for the final cleanup -- removal of dust & dirt, noise reduction, some exposure correction. cropping out bad areas of the film, straightening horizons, etc. and then export to a JPEG. When I have a quality slide to begin with, the results are excellent -- even for slides dating back to 1963. Here is an example from 1963: ![]() I thought maybe a demonstration in this thread was in order. If you object to my altering your photo I will happily remove it. I was guessing Kodachrome 64. My dad's photos were always on Kodachrome. I may have guessed incorrectly. I'm from the same era(1963) and that photo looks very much like my dad's Christmas photos. Love that old console tv, looks so familiar. Was it a Philco? Hosted photo: posted by rrblint in ./showthread.php?p=19048426&i=i72309507 forum: RAW, Post Processing & Printing Nice job with Viewpoint. I have just been using the horizon straightening tool on most of the slides -- I left this one alone so as not to chop off my sister's head, but your use of Viewpoint did mostly prevent that (but her forehead did get lost). I will give that a try -- thanks. I do recall now using Viewpoint on some shots of buildings in the past during some RAW file processing, but I haven't played with it in quite awhile.

I haven't looked into how the software is organized. Not really. You need a lot of juice otherwise it can take up to 2 minutes for DXO to export back to LR. The is because of Prime. I only use it if I need to. I did some tests several days ago and I see no difference in IQ between both at low ISO so I continue to use LR. I stick with LR for several reasons. I like the catalogue system and the plan comes with Portfolio. A few days ago the Zenfolio starter plan was $10 a month. I see today they dropped it to $7 which will only be for the first year. Portfolio via Smugmug is $180 a year. Image Editing OK
