Currently have a 5dmk2 and looking to upgrade. Have been looking at the Canon RP. Wondering if I will regret it. It's a large jump in technology but I know the RP is a lower end full frame. A lot of comparisons between it and newer cameras but wondering how it would be going from an older high end full frame. Anyone make a similar jump?

There is quite a drastic jump in sensor technology between the two.

The low light performance will be a huge jump in improvement, dynamic range in changing the exposure in RAW files and you wont worry about front/back focus using a mirrorless.

According to many the adapter from EF glass to new RF lens mount will provide native performance.

The RP has significant post-gain read noise with some banding. It's better than the 5D2 at base-ISO DR, but nothing like all Canon's other newer cameras. The RP and the 6D2 are the only recent-model Canons that have an off-chip ADC and high post-gain read noise.

It's basically just a spacer with wires. The body is bi-lingual and can speak the EF and RF protocols.

I've owned a pair of 5dmk2's in the past. I know exactly how it performed. Playing with my friends 6dmk2 I'd say it's like a full frame version of my previous Canon 80D. The AF performance and sensor performance of the aps-c 80D was leaps and bounds better than my previous 5dmk2.

The Canon lens adapter is a Canon product. My point I've made is informing the OP that the older EF mount Canon lenses will perform extremely well. The Sony A73 I own with the Sigma MC11 lens adapter is communicating Canon to sony which is far from "NATIVE PERFORMANCE". There is a difference in translation time between two manufacturers.

Jumping onto a Canon RP is a very big step from the 5dmk2. The EOS R would be the "better" upgrade at this moment in the Canon mirrorless full frame lineup. In my case Canon was a severe let down in the innovation of mirrorless full frame so I ended up diving into Sony which is a much more developed system. Most Canon hobbyists will not justify spending Canon R5 prices when it hits the shelves. RP is a sweet spot in the ease of wallet pain while experiencing the mirrorless FF world.

Definitely would second this....currently, Sony would be a much better, more developed investment. Even with the adaptor for your Canon lenses, Sony is leaps and bounds ahead in the mirrorless FF market.

I think before deciding whether the RP is or is not for you, it's always important to ask:

What would be the reason for the upgrade? What is it that the 5D Mark II doesn't do, or doesn't do well enough?

As a fellow 5D Mark II owner, I know it's an older camera with older technology, but it's also still a very capable camera which produces beautiful photographs. Which of its limitations (compared with newer tech) are you looking to overcome?
