Well written article about. SSD’s at https://nascompares.co​m …ck-green-gold-difference/ (external link). Some general content, some specific to WD.

The WD shopping options, like black, red, green, gold, blue, etc. read like the Johnnie Walker Scotch list at a decent bar! :-)

As a counterpoint, here's an interesting article (external link) on WD's use of SMR(Shingled Magnetic Recording)
in some of their NAS HDDs, and how it could be detrimental.

As someone who has shucked a number of WD drives for my 24 bay NAS I was perturbed about the recent SMR blow-up on the interwebs. I don't do raid but still don't want any SMR drives in my setup so I will definitely pay attention going forward when I need to add a new drive to the array.
