This is one of my favorites for a couple of reasons, I really like the fall colors as a back drop for this good sized bull that was heading away from the crowd. I had spent the full day in the background and so knew that a snow storm and vast area of open landscape was ahead of him. He seemed to be determined to be alone as I found over 30 Moose browsing about 3 miles further East in heavy cover. Though I did not get any photos of them, a pack of Wolves were just over the rise and down in a drainage area, always wondered how the winter turned out for this guy.

That is a magnificent photograph of an exceptional animal.

I know someone whose husband was killed when a moose crossed the road in front of their car. Very sad.

I'm mainly here for the snacks

We have a friend that was driving home from dinner in her brand new CTS when a full grown bull moose stepped out in front of her. . .she hit the moose, and it’s head with part of the rack came through the windshield. . .she got the car stopped and jumped out of the car. . .she then remembered that her phone was in the car. . .when she reached back in the car, the moose woke up in a less than pleasant disposition. . .the moose started shaking his head in an attempt to free himself from the car. . .before he was done he had completely destroyed the car. . .he turned toward our friend, snorted, and then trotted back into the trees.

They are seriously stout, hardy critters. . .with a less than pleasant personality.

If you cropped out the horizon you could imagine this as a 100 ft high giant moose walking through a forest!

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

These two were tussling with each other.
I thought they were completely uncaring of us imaging them.
We did as fools do, wanting closer shots and progressed toward them.
At some point they stopped fighting, turned toward us, then both moose began running straight at us.
Classic mistake. Luckily the campervan was close enough for us to dive in unscathed.
But lesson learned. Moose can run as fast as a horse and as has been mentioned are serious animals
and I've found through other encounters with them less predictable than bears.

Real nice capture MedicineMan, that had to be interesting to watch. I think Pondrader has mentioned the Moose should be respected as much or perhaps more than the bear. I've not had a lot of experience with Moose but they certainly fascinate me as do all their deer relatives.
In my mind, a keen eye should be kept on Bison as well, afraid many folks don't realize how fast Moose, Bison and Bear can be, in their world being big hasn't a thing to do with being slow.

Agreed. I was chased by a Bison in Canada just outside Banff.
I'd never seen one before. To me it was just a hairy cow.
The sign said stay in the car (it was a multi-acre Bison habitat), that they could run 40mph for 24 hours
and kill more people each year than lightening, bees, etc.
I didn't pay attention. Got out of the car, walked through a small copse of aspen into a clearing and was admiring them
until I noticed one running straight towards me!
Learned a good lesson that day.

One fall a few years ago, for some reason we had the west side of Glacier Park nearly to ourselves. I felt like the richest guy in the world.

This is one of the memories.

Real nice Teton, had to be a special time there, good memories are made when we see these big guys in their habitat.
