Any sample images taken with that diffuser?

Many moons ago I experimented with a lot of different plastics and I didn't like any of the food grade ones. They are normally made from plastics that will filter out certain wavelengths of light to protect the product that they contain, and so there were some odd color cast issues that I had to deal with in post. Eventually ended up only using plastics that were designed specifically for photographic diffusion.

Not bad, some blown-out highlights on the leaf but maybe it was sunny. The big test for me is the shiny insects like ants and ladybirds.
