I'm trying to put some plans together for a new PC build.

Any good recommendations for a Z390 motherboard? I plan to use an Intel 9900K CPU. I plan to dual boot Windows 10 and Mint 19.3 Linux, each running on a dedicated M.2 NVMe drive. I plan to have a shared 6TB 7200 rpm drive for data, but haven't thought through this too much yet.

I'm considering the ASRock Phantom Gaming 9. It has all the features I need. I would love to hear from others who may have done a Z390 based build recently.

Thanks.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

I just ordered a dedicated PhotoShop system from Puget. They offer outstanding information, component specifications, and consultation on building systems like these. I am really impressed with the assistance I received in specing my system.

Thanks for the recommendation. I really am not looking for anyone to build a system for me, as I enjoy putting computers together. However, I will look at their website to see if I can get some useful information from it.

Three thousands dollars for LR classic comp without monitor from those? I have seven years old PC with add on nvidia graphics card from older computer and it just works with LR 4.4.

Do you deal with 50MP+ files? If not, here is nothing really fancy needed to run LR or PS.
Spend more on good monitors and calibrating hw, sw.

Make sure returns are free and no restocking fee. Having matching connectors and specs doesn't mean it will work together.

The build I am contemplating is going to cost me about $1600. Plus a lot of satisfaction of actually assembling the machine. I should start putting together machines for others. Probably something I'll consider doing (if there is a market for it these days) when I retire in a year or so.

The Asus Prime Z390-A (1151) might be worth looking at as it seems to fulfill your needs at a price down around $180. See https://www.asus.com …ME-Z390-A/specifications/ (external link) for the details.

The ROG Maximus XI Code also ranks very high in the gaming world but unfortunately is about $100 more than the previously mentioned Asus. See https://www.asus.com …MAXIMUS-XI-CODE/overview/ (external link) for details

One thing I would like to mention is that Intel is meant to announcing the 10th gen desktop cpu's in a couple of day's , that could change what type of motherboard you want as it has a new cpu socket that's not backward compatible.

everything costs more or takes longer than you expect

Here is the direct link to Puget Systems motherboard information. They have some good information regarding processor compatibility, expansion slots, etc.

They have a similar section on Graphic Cards.

Three decades ago, I used to assemble my own PCs for more than a decade, as I could get parts and integrate PCs with higher specs for far less money than fully assembled off-the-shelf PCs.

And then I stopped...the last PC that I assembled was a real headache of multiple trips to the Fry's store which was only 15 minutes from where I worked. Not just for one supplemental board, but even (major surprise when this one occurred) for getting an IBM-compatible keyboard that functioned fully!!! The cost savings were no longer great, especially if you bought a PC on sale, and the integration headaches were gone. And with the right PC vendor, you had post-sale support even past the warranty period.
