On my camera, in this case the 1DX Mark II, I can enter cropping information by using C.Fn 7.1. Among the settings are 6:6, 3:4, 5:7 and so on. When cropping information is selected, I get outlines in the display, if I use live view, for what will end up in the image, if I crop it like that.
I'm now involved in a video project, where the sound of the narrator will continue, but the image will be replaced by a still photo in a few places in the video. When taking these photos, displaying cropping information for 16:9 would have been helpful. But that seems to happen only when actually recording video. There is no such cropping information for stills. All of those that are available also make the picture less wide, but the 16:9 cropping makes it less high, so none of the available ones are even close. The standard 3:2 is the best, but I still have to leave some guesstimated headroom when I take the pictures, or cropping them for 16:9 leaves some essential part out.
Is this a limitation of all these Canon cameras? I checked the 1DX Mark II and the 1DX, and at least it is for them.
