In the constellation Virgo sits a cluster of galaxies known as Markarian’s Chain. Discovered by Armenian astrophysicist Benjamin Markarian, this string of galaxies shares a common motion through space. Centered in the image are NGC4438 and NGC4435, also known as The Eyes. They received this nickname because they look like a pair of eyes in small telescopes. Thanks for looking!

This image consists of 19 hours in HaLRGB. I annotated the image with the standard NGC catalogue, but could see galaxies in the background that were not labeled. I added the PGC catalogue, and was amazed at the result! That is a lot of galaxies in the field of view.
