Hey all, dropped out of the photography world for a while. I used to have a Canon 7d mk II and 70-200 2.8 as my main setup, however I had quite a few issues with it. I mainly do sports/motorsports photography and it was amazing when it did work 100% right. I know that it always seemed to back focus a little bit, was this ever fixed with firmware? Is it still a solid camera to get back into photography with?

Thanks,

Eric

I started with a T3i, then bought a used 7D and finally a new 7DII and for me, each camera was better than the last. I shoot mostly sports with some landscape and wildlife thrown in. I love the 7DII, I would think that it would be great for what you shoot.

It's a good body. I liked mine. Just felt that it DEMANDED good light.

Have you focus adjusted your lens yet? It's might solve your problems.

I did, however I sold both a few years ago. Not even the first month I had that camera I had to have the auto focus assembly replaced. I also tried manually focus adjustment via the menu and never got it spot on, even took it to a camera shop as well which is why I'm hesitant to get it again, I know it was an issue with the camera because I had a 1dx loaner from Canon that was sharp as a tack.

I've been using mine many years now with no complaint. I respectfully disagree with the comment that it demands good light. I've gotten good pictures of auroras from passenger planes, and this picture in really lousy light (practically no light): https://photography-on-the.net …showthread.php?p=18726510

I wouldn't bother with a 7Dii unless you need something rugged.
In it's day it was flagship but things move on.

In fact, unless you have a shed load of canon glass, there are lots of other options around.

My other body was a 6D and the 7D2 was not even close. I shoot Fuji now and the sensor size is the same and I don't find them anywhere near as touchy as the 7D2 was. My technique has also improved since then so I will not discount that.

Use the Dot Tune method to MFA your lenses. You will notice a difference. It is not difficult to do, just takes a bit of practice. When I was shooting Canon I did it on both of my bodies with all of my lenses once per year. Another advantage of mirrorless now is that I DON'T have to do that anymore.
