I have been enjoying this site for some time now so I thought it was about time to post some images of my own. The pictures below are of my baseball team taken while I was enjoying some time off on the bench. All pictures were taken using a 70-200f2.8 (what a wonderful lens) at f2.8, iso200, at between 1/3200 and 1/5000. Any comments welcome.....

JasonW - Good colors and DoF in all pics. Sports pics are almost always more interesting if they show players' faces so #2 would probably be better if shot from the opposite side. Very few sports images that chop off a player's head are of interest thus #1 would probably be better if it included the batter's head and if shot from the opposite direction so that we could see his face. #3 is your best shot but I'd suggest you crop it tighter in front of the pitcher so that's it's in portrait mode. It would probably be better if shot from the first base line too -- pitcher shots are usually better if shot from the pitcher's throwing side. In #4 it would be difficult to get the batter's face from any angle and you probably did the best you could with what you have -- nice crop on it.

Jerry ~ Baseball is a game where only defensive players handle the ball and offensive players who hit successfully in only one third of their at bats are among the best in the sport.

Man - almost looks like kodachrome.... nice poppy colors. They all look good. My only advice would be in shots like the first one, either loose the batter and shoot tighter or come out some and give the poor chap his head back. There is just something uncomfortable about crops that sever the head at the neck. But other then that - nicely done and good clean backgrounds. Cheers.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the feedback. Good point.... I cropped it this way as I liked the effect of the dirt flying up from the impact of the ball. I though that it gave the picture some context (i.e. the catcher blocking a wild pitch). I possibly could have got the same effect without the hitter.....

Jason.

The colors are great, I am hoping I can be at least this lucky when I get to shoot softball this week. I really like the expression on the pitchers face in the 3rd picture.
