A couple images of the International Space Station a couple of nights ago. These shots are 27 seconds apart so its interesting how much it changed its orientation. Taken with my Sony A7RII and Celestron EdgedHD 8" telescope (prime focus). ISO 3200, F10, 1/2000s. 100% crops. The front corrector plate of the scope had some frost on it, so hoping for even better results next time.

Very nice captures! This is on my list to learn.

Do you track for these or do you setup and catch it as it goes through your field of view?

I track with software, however, my mount is only capable of "leap frog" tracking. It moves a second or two ahead of ISS, stops, lets it drift through the field of view and then leaps ahead again and repeats.

Very nice! What mount are you using. I've never heard of leap frog. That's pretty neat

My mount is an iOptron CEM60. "Leap frog" tracking is not a mount feature, but a technique of controlling the mount via software. The iOptron mount is not capable of receiving variable slew rate commands needed to track the satellite continuously and smoothly. I wrote the software that I am using.

To give some perspective, the longest dimension of ISS is 109 meters. When taking these pictures its range (distance from me) was around 500 kilometres. It was moving at approximately 27,000 kilometres/hour.

Simply awesome. Pure and simple!

Off topic, but didn’t you used to have a sat tracking site/forum years ago?
I say years ago, because your name rings a bell from before I lost everything in a wildfire in 2011. Used to belong to a group back then.

Again, awesome capture
Best

Edit..., remembered why your name was familiar. (I hope/think) :)
You wrote some fantastic software for either my lx200 or etx scope, for tracking the space shuttle! lol

That’s great! I’ll have to check it out. Thanks for bringing back memories from a more normal time. :)

Looking forward to more of your photos.

Best
