How to explain this? I tried to transfer pictures this evening from the SD card using an external card reader and there appeared to be card errors so I switched to the internal card reader in the laptop only to see the same errors. In both cases the file count was 183. I put the card back in the camera without making any changes on the computer and connected the camera via the USB cable. File count now 238 with no apparent corruption. I was able to transfer all files without issue and all look ok.

Jumping back to the fake corruption: the first two files as well as a group of files at the end of the list had filed names that contained only symbols (|<{%[€^£ as an example but they were symbols from the extended ascii character set). The first file had a listed file size of 2.2 gig with the second file being 1.1 gig.

This is all on a fairly new sandisk card which appeared to work fine yesterday in terms of using a laptop's internal card reader to transfer files. (Not the same laptop that I used today) Once the pictures were moved I did an in camera low level format. See how that works. My other thought was to use a windows computer to do a low level format but which fat file system do I use?

Anyone see this kind of thing before?

Thanks for any input.

Rod

Weird. If you only saw errors with card readers and not in the camera, I wonder if there might be an issue with a marginal contact on the card. The strange characters in the file names suggest the card's FAT is not being read correctly with the card readers.

Anyway, I would return the card and ask for a replacement!

Good that you were able to get the files off the card.
