Light and Shadow, the city by night

Wanted to capture a feeling with this latest set, maybe I did, maybe not. I've always been in love with the city at night, the lights, the sleeplessness, the surreality. Being able to capture that feeling on camera however, has always been something of a challenge, because of the natural tendency to do a super long exposure and make it look like daylight. In this case, I resisted that impulse and *I* am happy with the results, but I'm wondering how others will react to this. Does it work, or am I becomming one of those wierdos who are the only ones who can appreciate their own work?

I don't have some kind of phone fetish, it just so happens that these are the first two shots I processed, and the rest I'm going to tackle tommorow.

I like them both Richard, the first one in particular as it's nicely balanced with the contrasty background, the light on the path is excellent, it creates a moody almost mysterious feel for me. I like the second because of the light being off in one booth, it adds a certain dimension......almost like 'pick me' for the one with the light on. I reckon' you're certainly displaying a consistant style with these shots.

Every shooter is like that - most of us shoot to please ourselves.

The first one hits a mark for me. IMHO the rain drizzle adds a load of feeling, the background is a fantastic find and the foreground is techy and mod but gritty and alienating too.

The second one hasn't got those imho.

The first one is very interresting, but the second is of balance. I like the idea with one functional and on disfunctional phone, but a thightly cropped portrait showing both phonebooths from the ground up would have worked better - i think

Both are wonderful pictures.

One is a really great shot with the back left light balancing beautifully the phone display ... and two doesn't do as much for me

#1 is great, nice contrast in light.

I like them both, nice job.

I love the first one; the second one bores me.

Personally i find the 2nd image a little boring but the 1st image is spot on. You start by looking at the phone booth and then your eye gets drawn away down the path towards the lights in the backgroud. The moody lighting is fantastic. Great work

The first pic is fantastic, I like the moody lighting and feel. The grafitti and worn out feel to the telephone booth make it an interesting subject.

Like most here, I like the first one. The distressed phone booth and the meandering street and the darkness combine to make this a very moody picture.

I find the second pic interesting as well. There are two highlighted subjects in this pic - the phone and the smaller figure on the right. The bright phone seems to act as a beacon for the person, who seems to need it. Very interesting play of subjects.

Twitch.... your stuff is brilliant - don't let it go to your head - but if you were to put your stuff together in a collection, no doubt you would get a showing. It is because your a little whack that your stuff is so interesting - most "normal" people would have just seen two pay phones ... which just to be different is my favorite. The lighting on the second shot is what makes it different to me. A beat up old phone in the rain is intersting... but I could invision a story of the two phones... put there at the same time but are now different... and the stories they have heard. Cheers and stay odd - its way more fun!

i love the first photo, the bell telephone and the curvy road makes the shot look creepy like a halloween type of thing. Great job!
