I have been trying to remember (which is failing...) a photographers name I read about many years ago in the Old Farmers Almanac. The only thing I remember about the photographer was that his images were very much sought after, expensive, etc. His images caught the last vestiges of small town America, late 30's - 40's. He was a loner and lived on Chocolate Ice Cream. I know it sounds crazy but was taking a shot that someone may have a clue. I wish I had a better description so I do apologize. I emailed the Old Farmer's Almanac a week or two ago but no response. Appreciate any info.

Tom

Maybe Arthur Rothstein?

"Arthur Rothstein became the first photographer sent out by Roy Stryker, the head of the Photo Unit. During the next five years he shot some of the most significant photographs ever taken of rural and small-town America."

Appreciate the response but no. This photographer lived in the same Town from where he took the pictures. What I remember, he was like the town Photographer.

YES!!! That's him. Thank you...it's a humbling experience to stare at something for a long time and the guy behind you walks up and says, "there it is..." LOL

I think this photographer came into my head, with the world so upside down these days, nice to see some portraits like his...

While here, I'm looking for a photography book to read, geared more to sports photography, doesn't have to be about technique, could be the 'story behind the story' type of read, any suggestions?

Thanks again,

Tom

Just to build upon what Digital Paradise posted ...

The photographer was born Mike Meyer, and changed his name to Mike Disfarmer.

He lived and photographed in Herber Springs, Arkansas.

"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

I did a similar search and I pretty much just got pictures of people being photographed eating chocolate ice cream. :-P Well done Digital Paradise!

And to the OP, I'm glad you got your answer. ;-)a
