This is a black bear, but with a dominant brown gene in its fur colour. This is an uncommon genetic aberration, found in parts of Cumberland County, Nova Scotia. Through the rest of the province, the black bears are the normal mostly black colours.

Here's a more typical local black bear........they're all out in the fields enjoying the fresh green grass.

And finally one more local black bear.....they seem to be everywhere this year.

Fantastic representations there, Ian!

That first one bear is stunning; appreciate the info. Seems I need to spend some extended time on Vancouver Island for the Kermode (Spirit) Bears and then head for NS to see some of these wonderful “oddities” ߘ
