I’ve searched (here and elsewhere) and I cannot seem to find anything that mentions what this switch does. It’s the first one on the barrel. 1.2m to infinity and 2.5m to infinity.

My only guess is to keep it from hunting over the entire range of you know you’re subject is going to be > 2.5m away. But, as I said, I’m just guessing.

I’ve googled. Nothing.
I read the manual (the folded up poster on rice paper lol) nada.
I searched here and didn’t see anything either.

That's exactly right. It's properly called a focus limiter switch. Longer lenses will offer this and it's quite helpful because longer lenses have less depth of field. Less depth of field makes out-of-focus images soooo soft that the Auto-Focus sensors have no idea which way to twist the focus.

Mostly using Canon bodies with lots of different lenses and flash.

Awesome! Thanks for the insight. I’ve only managed to confuse this lens once so far. I’m going to have to remember to use the switch on the future.

Yes it's a focus limiter and I think it may save both lens motor and battery life.
