I changed the curves of this picture, and attempted to get some more color in the sky.

I also tried to rotate the picture to make the horizon.....horizontal, but I wasn't sure which part to go by. I used the trees as a guide, but now the water looks off.

Are the mountains blue because of the limitations to my camera's ability?

First ... nice image you have here. Sure makes me want to spend time there.

The mind of the viewer will probably want the water to be correct, we know that has to rest flat.

Third (and Im not a nature photogrpher) the haze is probaly moisture content in the air. Filters would help that.
Now that the photo is taken, maybe a Photoshop guru can help out.

You're correct, the picture is now tilted down at the right and up at the left. Needs to be rotated CCW.

Aside from that which is easily corrected, I like the scene and the composition. You could easily crop out the little bare branches on the right hand side while you are rotating it.

The exposure and color balance seem to be fine, although the picture seems to be artificially boosted in saturation, but it's not harming the overall effect.

Very nice picture, and you will find it easy to make a couple of corrections.

I tried another quick edit this morning.

Robert: I didn't add any saturatoin to this picture, but after considering your comment, I did realise that it wasn't looking very real, so I de-saturated a bit.

I'm working with 7.0, and I looked through the preset filters, but didn't think that any would work to my advantage.

I found a couple of different sites where downloads are available. I've tried a few, but they don't show up in Photoshop where I need them.

Thanks for the compliments; it's a wonderful place to be. I've done a lot of painting in the area. :D

I think the mountains look better in your re-worked posting. I would be interested in knowing whether you paint from your photographs or from the scene, and do you paint in oil or acrylics? I paint in both but I work only from photographs unless I'm forced to work a live portrait, which has only happened twice that I can remember, thank goodness!

I love painting in both oil and acrylics, but I've been working more with oils lately. There's definitely a difference between liking what you do, and being good at what you do; in this case, I just like what I do, and I have A LOT to learn about painting, still.

This is just a shot that I captured of the preliminary stages of my painting. This picture was taken earlier in the day compared to the original picture posted here, and I've noticed that the sky is blue, and the mountains look much better.

BTW, I usually paint right from pictures, and this is one of the few instances that I went 'into the field' to work.

Thanks for the comments!
