I seen this technique in Photoshop and wanted to try it. I am really happy with how this turned out. This is only my third attempt at this type of work.

That's certainly amazing.
The end result is very pleasing
Is it a time consuming exercise?

This is a technique that is new to me. So it took me a long time. For someone that is good at photoshop they might be able to do it faster. You could probably get apps to do it for you but I enjoyed doing it myself.

In short I created a colour palette for the skin then added it using gradient map. Another for the hair, then layers for the clothing, badge etc painting and sharpening.
