So, what about the Fuji colors? True to life?

Hello Doug. Many of us that began in the days of film used Fuji Velvia, an ISO 50 color transparency film. It was sharp, had great colors, and tended to be saturated. It was the choice for many nature photographers in the 90s when I began my journey. At the time, Velvia and Provia were the preferred tools to run through my Canon gear. But I never imagined that I would be using a Fuji camera someday - or that a thing called Digital was right around the corner. Perhaps you knew that but your question suggested to me that maybe you didn't.

These images were not shot with actual Velvia but with Fuji's digital Velvia simulation that is available in camera. While it isn't exactly like the old film, it is very close.

As for true to life, I profess that there is no such thing. There are simply editorial decisions made by a photographer and it is all very much subjective.

Yes, years ago in the 1980's I shot transparencies for reproduction and the only time I used Fuji Velvia was in the springtime. The Velvia Greens were so GREEN, so in the early spring I used Velvia so that the early few greening plants were more visible. Otherwise, I was a K25 and K64 kinda guy. :)

I used plenty of Tri-X in the university dark room. But as to color, I was never a Kodak guy.

Like I said, subjective. ;-)a

Interesting discussion.
In my days here in Australia, Fuji colours didn't seem to fit our landscapes.
As mentioned too green. That was my thoughts back then.
I wonder too though about the light we have here.
Artists (painters) make comment about our light.

Kevin that is a beautiful moth you've captured so nicely.
