Yep, I'm still on Office 2003, as well.

First off, when they changed the toolbars to the 'Ribbon', I hated it.
There's a safe addon to later versions which restores the toolbar,
much like Open Shell restores the UI we like to Win7 and 10,
but those later versions had me going back to settings I didn't want to.
In short: They broke it after v2003.

I keep Win7 on one of two desktop PCs simply because there is some part of the Microsoft Office software that runs fine on Win7 but it does not do well on Win10, and I do not want to pay the perpetual fee to get the Win10 compatible version of that same software when I otherwis do not need the entire office suite in retirement!

I'm running Office 2003 on Win 10 without any problems. OK, there are some initial hassles setting programs defaults, but once that is done it is fine.

Yes Edge is loaded by default...crazy, since Microsoft already announced that it was getting out of the browser business and discontinuing Edge! "Microsoft is replacing Edge with its new Chromium browser next week. Microsoft is replacing its Edge browser with the updated, Chromium-based version on January 15. Windows 10 users will be automatically transitioned over.Jan 10, 2020"
I just did a reload of Win10 with Microsoft Tech Support assistance, but it was version 19nn (2019)...when he tried to load v20nn (2020) it came back and said that was NOT COMPATIBLE YET with my 1.5yr old HP PC. -? Edge loaded. After initial startup steps, I closed Edge...then loaded Chrome and set it as my default browser!!! Edge will sit otherwise unused.

I abandoned the MS browsers because they keep changing the UI. Went to Chrome because the UI seemed stable. Then I read it's a tracking cookie magnet, checked how many tracking cookies it had attracted, so I abandoned it. I've been on Firefox ever since because there's all sorts of privacy protections you can add-on... and the UI is stable.

Another vote for Firefox.
It's not what Opera used to be, but it's enormously adaptable with extensions
and the development community always has an eye on privacy.

If you use the Canon EOS Utility (see my post above), it automatically launches Canon DPP after the download finishes. DPP then displays thumbnails for all files including CR3s. From DPP you can delete the ones you don't want and then launch LR.

I did attempt to install the Canon EOS Utility a couple of days ago as per your earlier suggestion.

Didn't think I would use or be able to use the program as at one point during the install, it was asking permission to change network settings.
Wasn't sure what network settings it was wanting to change so, I didn't go forward with that.
I'm sure that it has something to do with Wi-Fi use, but my desktop doesn't have Wi-Fi capabilities and I probably wouldn't use the Utility's Wi-Fi function anyway.

At this point I'm thinking that the software didn't completely install so I didn't attempt to use it.

Today I saw your current post so I thought I would give it a try again.
Hooked up the camera to the desktop using the micro USB cable, turned on the camera, opened the Utility, and everything works like you say.
Turns out that even though I didn't allow the program to make network changes, that didn't stop the Utility from installing.

Thanks for the suggestion.

That's unusual. I can't recall EOS utility ever needing to change network settings during an installation. It looks like the download link that was posted is from Canon Malaysia. That might explain the request. If you're in the US, I suggest using the Canon US support site for 90D downloads. It shouldn't be an issue downloading from any of the Canon worldwide sites. I've done numerous times. Maybe the code was slightly different for that particular market.

If your PC can show the files existing on the card/card reader combination, I don’t think there is any reason that DPP can’t open those CR3 files if pointed to the card reader. Having said that, what version of DPP are you using?

You might also find some help at https://www.eostrainingacademy.co.uk …10.0.0_update_Preview.pdf (external link). Go specifically to page 11.

Edit, see link https://community.usa.canon.com …R3-file/m-p/281783#M40185 (external link)

I have DPP 4.0

With the camera connected to the PC and using the Canon EOS Utility, DPP will transfer and open the CR3 files.
That is the process I'm now using.

I could be wrong but I don't think DPP can work in tandem with a card reader.
At least not on my PC.

The options available to me for importing the files to the PC using the card/card reader combination, are the Adobe programs Lightroom, Photoshop and Bridge.

Wasn't too impressed at first with using DPP to make adjustments to the files but, starting to like it a bit more as I use it more.

Regarding your earlier post asking about my aversion to moving to Win 10, at this point I'm happy to stay with the OS I have.
The fact that it can't display thumbnails for the CR3 files isn't that big of an issue for me now.
It would nice if it could but now I know that isn't a possibility.

You might be right.
I see the DPP version on the Canon page from your link, shows as being a higher version than what I installed.

Other than that though, the page looks identical to the one I was at.
I remember that COVID-19 Update from Canon USA banner.

Looks like I'll be uninstalling what I used and use the one from your link.

Thanks.

Edit

I should've checked before posting the above but, it turns out I had the page to the link you provided already bookmarked so, based on that, I would've downloaded DPP and the Canon EOS Utility programs from that same page.
I think.
The DPP version on that page is actually what I do have installed.
Might just do an uninstall/reinstall anyway.

As a side note, FastStone Image Viewer runs on Win7 and reads CR3 files just fine. However, I think the DPP4 CR3>TIF engine is better for conversion.
