Well it was worth the wait.

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

Isn't it great whwne you want something, and work on getting something, for years, and then finally accomplish what you set out to do?!

I would like to hear about your 5 year quest for this photo. . Was it 5 years spent with Puffins, photographing them frequently, waiting for the opportunity for this particular type of shot?

Or was it 5 years of mostly waiting and saving for an opportunity to go to where the Puffins are?

I really want a shot of Stellar's Eiders walking or standing on top of ice. . I thought of such a shot, and tried to get one, when I was in Barrow, Alaska two years ago. . I saw them walking on top of the ice at a distance that was too far for good photos. . Tried to get down to where they were, but was unable to do so before they flew away. . I wanted that picture so bad! . I have thought about it every day since then, and determined that some day I will go back to a place where the Eiders live and try to get the shot that I couldn't get back in 2018.

Hopefully, some day I will be able to start a thread like yours - showing success at that which I have wanted for years!

Phenomenal shot!! Were you in a blind? That lens is awesome, but seems like it might be short for these guys. And you weren't even all the way to 400mm. In Eastern Canada they have blinds you can reserve, but very difficult to get. Even having a blind does not guarantee you'll get shots like this!

Nor did Desmond use the built-in 1.4 extender, so he only used 350mm of the 560mm that was available to him. . Impressive!

I love that lens, out of my price range, however. Canon had a booth at the 2016 US Open (golf) & they gave me one to use all day Sunday for the final round. I'm as jealous of the lens as I am of the shot.

Tom ive being trying to get this type of shot for the last 5 seasons i live in Northern Ireland and i drive to Co Wexford Ireland 10 hrs rd trip sleep in the car and go out on a boat to the Saltee Island where the puffins come every year . Last few years ive being out there was no puffins coming in that day with sand eels in mouth or it was wet or very windy conditions or puffins just not doing anything so finally on Thursday it all came together weather puffins and sand eels But still had to get the shot

It took that bird 5 years to catch that many fish at one time!

Awesome shot.
