I finally got a cover on The LOON, the quarterly journal of the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union, of which I am a life member. I've had an inside back cover and other interior photos published previously, but never have had a front cover. This is the current issue that was just released. It says Winter 2019 because the journal is always published in arrears, so to speak, because of the need to compile list records. The MOU is the keeper of sightings and distribution records for the whole state. Members are birdwatchers for sure, but scientifically-based and I'm proud to be affiliated with them. The photo was taken a year ago in May, just down the road from our house.

Thanks, Stan; they really are a nifty species, but ugly, yes.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Very nice, Al! I’ve never even heard one of these vocalizing, much less captured it.

Thanks, Eric. I'm not sure I heard him vocalize, but then my hearing isn't what it used to be.

Congrats!

When one has one particular publication in mind and has waited for a long time, it is immensely satisfying to finally have success with that publication. . Even more so when it is in one's own state or region, and viewed by many who share the same interests you do.

By the way, I don't believe it is vocalizing, as Turkey Vultures are known to be soundless, except for a faint hissing noise they rarely make on very rare occasions. . Birds often open their bills wide for reasons other than making sounds.

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Thank you most kindly, Tom; I appreciate it. And I agree with your comments on vocalization.
