I need a computer guru to help me with scanning on a Canon Printer.

18 months ago I bought this printer, and I do like it alot. I do very little scanning, but today I tried for the first time.

There is a link when I hover over it it says: "Scan Placed Photos and Documents with Automatic Scanning"

Here is where the LINK for the program is found.

IMAGE: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50057127402_c71680a337_w.jpg
IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/2jgnS1J (external link) Scan6B (external link) by inspeqtor (external link), on Flickr

(Yes the top and left side will minimize)

When I click on this, yes it does scan the photo or document. When it scans the item it comes up in "My Image Garden"

When I then go to FILE to save the scanned document, the only thing under File is "Exit"!!! That will close the program. I find no way to be able to SAVE the file!!

I have downloaded the PDF file for the TR8500 Series Printers, but there is very little help here (that I have found) as the screen shot of what they say I should see does not match what I do see on the printer LCD screen.

Here is what the PDF file shows I should see on the printer:

IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/2jgi8Wc (external link) Scan1 (external link) by inspeqtor (external link), on Flickr

Here is what the actual main screen is on my printer:

IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/2jgnktG (external link) Scan2 (external link) by inspeqtor (external link), on Flickr

When I click on the scan button, I see:

IMAGE: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50056778756_fa349de0fb_h.jpg
IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/2jgm5nA (external link) Scan3 (external link) by inspeqtor (external link), on Flickr

If I tap on the Save to PC I see:

IMAGE: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50056778356_73eaa013b7_h.jpg
IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/2jgm5fG (external link) Scan4 (external link) by inspeqtor (external link), on Flickr

If I click on the Doc.Type Auto Scan I see:

IMAGE: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50056252468_6788d1c0a2_h.jpg
IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/2jginVE (external link) Scan5 (external link) by inspeqtor (external link), on Flickr

There is nothing that tells me how to Set the PC to start scanning!

I do like everything else on the Canon printer but I am not at all happy with the horrible problem I am having with trying to scan anything!

I thank you in advance for any help anyone can give to me!;-)a

I don't have my Canon printer since we moved so this is mostly from memory.

On the Computer/Start Menu (not the Printer) look for a folder called canon utilities. Canon IJ Scan Utility is in there. Run it and you can launch scan jobs from there.

If memory serves it doesn't have a Save command. When you have done scanning you select to exit and it pops up a save dialogue for the stuff you scanned... or maybe it just automatically saves them into your Documents folder (or maybe Scanned Docs in your Pictures folder).

Hello Dan,

Thank you for your reply. I found the IJ Scan Utility. Within the utility I tried, Auto, Document and Photo. None of them saved anything that I could find anywhere you suggested, or other places I also looked.

In the image where you select "Auto Scan", Tap "DESKTOP.." To select which PC to store the document. This assumes, your PC and Scanner are under Same network and can see each other. You should see your scanner from Desktop and Vice Versa.
Instead of "Auto Scan" , If I choose scan type as "Document" i.e. PDF, the scanned file directly goes to my PC's MyDocument folder.
Hope this helps

I had not thought before to try tapping on Desktop. When I do that I get:

IMAGE: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50061500502_6e4f03bcc2_h.jpg
IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/2jgLgZ1 (external link) Scan7A (external link) by inspeqtor (external link), on Flickr

I find I cannot tap on "Select PC" if I do nothing happens.

I then tapped "Local (USB)" and got:

IMAGE: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50061276491_44b460b3c4_h.jpg
IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/2jgK8oK (external link) Scan8 (external link) by inspeqtor (external link), on Flickr

Pretty much the same as image 5 in my first post but there is a difference

Image 5 above I got at bottom "Charles DESKTOP..." Now at the bottom I get "Local (USB)"

When I tap on "Local (USB)" I now get:

IMAGE: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50061541452_ea4dd4c209_h.jpg
IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/2jgLua3 (external link) Scan9 (external link) by inspeqtor (external link), on Flickr

This is right back to where I was before... I still have not been able to save my file!!

Have you set up the "destination" for scanned items? See https://ugp01.c-ij.com …ies/1.1/EN/SU/su-107.html (external link) for how to do this. One thing I've done here (but with a different printer) is to set up a folder called "Scanned Images" with a desktop shortcut and directed the scanned images to go there. That enables some family members to find their work easier.

Thank you John for the link! Are you using a Canon Printer? (I am assuming you are) I am guessing what the arrow is pointing to is the computer (my computer)

It says to Click Auto Scan on the computer.

If that is correct where is Auto Scan on my computer? Is that the IJ Scan Utility that Dan referred to above?

I just tried that again and get the second image....

I used to have a Canon Printer but acquired an high end new HP, essentially free. I was very pleased to gave the Canon (along with a PC) to a nearby veteran's home for use in the lounge.

Anyway, I was working from memory and found the original link I sent you too online. But I remember having a similar issue in that until I defined a destination within the Canon scanning software it would stall after the scan was complete, regardless of what options I tried.

I see you are going to perhaps give Canon a call. Depending on your success, I also found another link that seems to better match your images in the original post. So perhaps https://ugp01.c-ij.com …anners%20and%20click%20OK (external link). might be worth a try. It is for a different scanner (MX series) but I've found the software to be more or less universal across the Canon line.

By the way, finding how to "connect" with Canon Support can be a challenge so you might check https://www.usa.canon.com …-General-_-Contact-_-CITS (external link) .

Also, just noticed the thread at https://community.usa.canon.com …t-scan/td-p/170111/page/6 (external link). Go to the very last entry (page 6) by "Darius". Might be worthwhile.

John,

My printer DOES do the scanning just fine. I have just not been able to save the scan.

I really do not understand why Canon had to make saving a scan so difficult to do! vmadvmadvmad

I love my Canon cameras, but so far not so much the printer when it comes to scanning.

Well again, poke around settings looking for one that control “where to send”. When I had my problem the machine would scan fine, it just simply didn’t know where to send it so the process froze.

Charles, I would start by going on-line and updating printer drivers. Also, if you are saving wirelessly to the folder, make sure the bluetooth is on. Sorry I cannot be more help than that.

In post 8, you see a scanned document...you can Drag and Drop that to any destination you want, even if the automatic StoreFile-in-LocationX is not set up properly, if it works anything like the Navigator scanning software which came supplied with my Canon 8800F scanner.
