As I had said earlier, the scanner seems to be properly functioning but some user intervention is needed so the software know where to put the scanned image. For instance, on my installation, I have set up a folder called "Scanned items" with a path of C:\Users\XXXXX\Documents\Scanned items where "XXXXX" is defined by my profile. Just as a point of interest, I put this as a subfolder under documents for backup purposes, another topic. I then go into the scanner software and set the "Scanned items" folder as the default destination for anything scanned.

John,

From THIS (external link) website you gave to me earlier

Where/how do I find the Settings Dialog box?

A possibility, and after reviewing your reply #8 where you've successfully scanned something; in the left panel I see that "Documents" is highlighted. The file name is IMG_20200630_0002.pdf. Are you sure that the file isn't in your Documents folder? Perhaps the scanning software puts them there by default. That is what mine originally did, I just preferred to set up a special folder just for scanned items.

I'd be working from memory but looking back at some of your screenshots I would first investigate in the Settings (looks like a gear) area. I also see a screenshot with ">>Placing documents".

Well now... I have checked my Documents folder many times, but checking it just now, YES that photo is in my Documents folder.

So I just now scanned another photo and again checked my Documents folder, and NO the second photo did not go there.

Why the first one did and the second photo did not is a mystery!

Back to my question, where/how do I find the Settings Dialog box??

Did the first one get there when someone (perhaps Wilt) suggested you attempt to drag and drop it to the folder?

Also, try the procedure at https://community.usa.canon.com …to-save-scans/td-p/144359 (external link). But take special notice of a reply by "sdultra" (09-07-2018 @ 08:47 PM in which he/she states "Like many I read this and missed the most important step which was to select the Second Tab which contains the Scan to PC settings".

ALL of the drag and drop I did was to the desktop only.

I just did some tweaking and I THINK I have it done now to save photos in one place and doc's in another place!

Thank you for your help. Right now I need to go run some errands!

Sorry but it took me a while to check details as I don't have my Canon printer.

1. There is no Save or Save As command because the software saves the files automatically. There is no need to save them or manually drag them anywhere. You just need to check where they are currently being saved.

2. Where it saves them depends on the file format and the settings. If you scan a photo the default location for saving will be Photos, while if you scan a document (or scan a photo using the document setting) it will be saved in Documents.

3. To check the current location that is used to save go to the Setting in IJ Scan Utility. To can check and change the save locations for each of the different scan modes as well as altering other settings (such as the default file naming).

Thank you Dan for your help in this! John from PA also helped me. As I told John I THINK I have it set now. I have to leave in a few minutes to go out to eat with my daughter and he family.

The default setting for me at least never worked as I checked those locations.
