I just pushed the purchase button on the XF55-200. I had planned on getting the 50-140 but after considering I wanted this camera as a light weight option plus the cost I went with the cheaper lens. I also have a canon 5DIII and 135F2 for the sort of shots I was thinking Id get with the 50-140. Im hoping I made a good choice. Anyone on here have any thoughts on this lens

I own both the 55-200 & the 50-140. Yes, I suffer from GAS big time !!! (LOL) They are both great lenses but for me serve different purposes.

The 50-140 is a fabulous lens but can be a bit of a pain. I love it and get great pics from it, but it is huge and heavy. I doubt the images I get from it could be any better, it is just a superb lens for image quality.

The 55-200 is also a great lens with excellent image quality. possibly not quite that of the 50-140, but it is very versatile. I love to carry the 10-24, 18-55, & 55-200 in a small bag around my shoulder while hiking. In this way no matter what scene I come upon I am ready to shoot.

:-D This is one of the videos I already watched on utube while researching what to buy. I went with the 55-200 because I already have canon full frame gear for the wide aperture stuff and I wanted lighter gear, Im in western Australia and while it rains its not usually an issue with any of my camera gear. But if someone wanted to give me a 50-140 I wouldn't say no :-D

A friend shoots with his 55-200 and he co-shoots with me a few times a year, the shots off it are great. I wouldn't worry about much bar the weight, cost, WR, constant aperture and loosing a bit of reach on the 50-140 but the 55-200 is a great option and more that up for he job even for moving subjects. The best option is the 50-140 with the option of attaching the TC1.4 that gives you 70-196mm @f/4 also. But that pushes the price up a bit more, Fuji offer the 501-40 + TC1.4 as a bundle.
As I said I that vid the 55-200 would be perfect for everything (just about) that I've been shooting lately. Just for work shooting in the rain and dust having sealed lenses is the option for me. Might still pick up a 55-200 for the weight savings and that extra bit of reach.

Thanks, yes I tested it out today and its pretty good. I was thinking of getting the 100-400 but I think for birding my canon is still the better option and will probably look at a tamron 150-600 for that at less than half the price

I love my 55-200.
The 50-140 is the only lens I'd upgrade to, but for size/weight/etc., I'm more than happy shooting with it,
Among everything else I shoot, including portraits, I shoot indoor basketball with it on my X-T2.
It locks in, tracks and keeps things in focus. I get very, very few missed shots, usually because I wasn't locked on.
Out of a 100 shots, I may miss 3 or 4.
