Not so sure what the big deal is about Lock ups ??

I have had camera's lock up in the past. Turn on/off switch and problem solved

How many of you have had your laptop lock up

These things happen with electronics

Not a big deal to me

Software issues are one thing but hardware is another. Some of these freezes require a new circuit board, and that i find troubling.

Mine went dead while it was hanging on the strap at my side. Not locked up but dead. No power. nothing would start it up again. On and off, switch batteries folllow the steps from CPS for a restart, nothing. In the middle of a wildlife shoot. Really annoying and now I don't have it for tomorrow's shoot. Oh well, my 5DIV will get some use tomorrow!

Currently have R6 , looking to add R5 sometime next year.
Just one question. Does the R5 need both cards inserted to operate or
will it work with just the SD card inserted ?

My R5 works fine with just an SD card. Can't say I've run into any buffering issues either.

The autofocus optical/electrical saga takes another turn. I accidentally left my 2xIII connected to my 400/4 DO II, when I meant to swap it out for the Kenko 3x. Already all assembled, I just decided to try it, fully expecting the IS and AF to freak out with 6x of teleconversion and the associated electronics, 3x of it non-reporting, and 2x of it reporting. It didn't bang the IS module, and it focused, pretty quickly, at 2400/24.

That's crazy. These new mirrorless bodies are certainly interesting!

I am convinced that it will be the same as with the 5D Mk III and Mk IV, when I could also have only one card inserted.

For those who use Eye AF.. Human and animal... do you leave it turned on all the time, or just when you need it.. I am a landscape shooter 95% of the time, but also do wildlife when it presents itself.. Do you just leave it on and if it senses an eye it engages? or do i have to enable it for each use

good question

One of the reasons I choose R6 over R5 is cards

I have been told you need the better cards to get performance out of R5...and those card and another battery add $800 for camera entry fee

who knows for sure ???

I have "AF-ON" button in the back set to single point AF, and the button next to it -- * -- for Eye AF Servo Tracking. When Eye AF tracking loses the subject, I quickly engage "AF-ON" button to refocus on the right subject. This works particularly well when you're tracking a particular bird among several birds together in close proximity to one another.

I also do some landscape -- in bracket shooting mode -- and I've set aside one of the three customized modes (C1-C3) specifically for that with an entirely different AF settings. I've set one for portraits and another one for BIF, all with settings that are appropriate for each shooting needs.

It works just like any other bodies with two card slots. I haven't had a chance to get a CFExpress card, so I've been using the same card for R5 that I've been using with my 5D IV, SanDisk Extreme Pro 64GB. It works fine alone.

You don't pay more for the card because of the body per se; you pay more for CFExpress card in order to maximize certain performances out of the body, particularly for video shooting. If you're not going to shoot much video at highest resolution, and you don't go Rambo on burst stills shooting all the time, then just a good quality SD card would do fine.

Hmmmmm- thats different from what I read. Especially for silent and electronic shutter use for bursts and wildlife needs. So Your saying CFE express slot not needed unless you want 2 cards at all time or if you shoot 8K....doesnt that put you down to single SD card slot and no dual cards ??

With R5 you only need one single SD card. I just shot with only one 64GB SanDisk Extreme Pro card to test the battery, and was able to get close to 1,000 shots in full RAW, all in burst mode of about 5-7 shots, with about 4 short video clips included.

For my BIF shooting needs, I will be getting a couple of CFExpress cards (hoping for Black Friday sales deal), but that's an option, not a requirement for R5.

Here's the R5 compatible card chart:

How did you like dealing with MPB? Have you ever sold to them? Curious.

I sold/traded some gear to MPB in exchange for a used EF 8-15mm f/4L lens.

Was easy to deal with, lens as described, like new with all caps and original box for about $400 below new price.

I would liked to have got more for the stuff I sent them but wasn’t getting any interest trying to sell myself and they gotta make a profit so there comes a point when less than what you want is better than nothing and spending time listing and dealing with low ballers.
