Isn't the lowest setting is 100?
I don't recall any ISO expansion to 50.. but I'm new :)

Look in paper manual pg 99, you can set ISO 50 or ISO 102400.

ISO 50 has been around for a long time in Canon bodies, but ISO 100 is the lowest native ISO. ISO 50 is done by software in the camera and is not necessarily as clean ISO 100. It's handy when you want to get a little longer exposure and you don't have enough ND filters to do it, or don't have the right one for a given situation. I use it every now and then but not much.

Yes, thanks, I've used it on previous bodies. I just had not noticed it in the menu for the R5 yet I guess. One downside to the R5 is it's learning curve! :)

That's the best part.

Kenmore Camera in.... Wait for it...... Kenmore, WA. Been there only a few times when in lived up there in the NW.

They still had the adapter, YAY me, my EF lenses and my R5

But it was only 30 mins or less than I had placed a Rental order for one at LR for a week or two while I sourced one.

Thanks for posting this.

It's just a matter of semantics that ISO 50 or "L" is considered not to be a real ISO. A manufacturer can call an RAW capture with a particular highlight clipping exposure any ISO they want, as long as matte whites don't clip (which would make the ISO setting and the manufacturer look silly).

Canon has used the same gain as ISO 100 for ISO 50 in most cameras with ISO 50, and that actually means cleaner deep shadows than what using half the gain of ISO 100 would actually yield.

Auto ISO -- You can only get to Auto when the camera is in what I'll call the "passive" state. The opposite of that is the "active" state. Active state on a default-setting camera is entered by a half-press on the shutter button. If you had set ISO 500 before entering active state, then you can change ISO but you can't get to Auto. Once you release the shutter button, the camera will go back to passive state in maybe 10 seconds or so. Once you're back in passive state, you can set ISO to Auto.

Another thing strangely affected by the active/passive state is the meter indicator with auto-ISO M. When passive, it is a straightforward EC (ISO bias) control. When active, the indicator does not change after the ISO indicated reaches the end of range, but your clicks are counted, and are reflected when the camera drops to the passive state again. I don't know why it doesn't just have two indicators; one the EC directive, and the other, the passive metering.

A night college course coupon should come with the price of these cameras!

Just got notice that Kenmore Camera has shipped my RF 100-500, finally. Ordered about 2 months ago. No idea if they have more or not but might be worth giving them a call.

My first real camera was a Canon F1. That was a long time ago.

Canon should allow us to save/load our custom configurations on these highly customizable bodies. This is another thing on my ever-growing CANON WISH LIST for features. It exists on the Canon 1D series but we really need this enabled for the EOS R series.

Imagine borrowing an EOS R/RP/R5/R6 body from a friend and you can't just pick it up and start shooting because your friend has everything configured completely differently.

Do you have the time to clone your settings from your body to your friend's body? It's not as easy as it seems, I've done this with two EOS R bodies side by side and again with two EOS R5 bodies and unless you've got a good 30 minutes of uninterrupted time you're likely to miss something that you'll only find out later when you really need to use it.

Sure, you could do a factory reset on your friend's camera and at least have a common vanilla starting point, but what happens when your friend gets the camera back without their completely different configuration?

ID MkIII had this, and we even had thread here where we were uploading our customized settings files. The file type was .csd No mention of this anywhere on the internet, it was a stealth/ghost feature that so few used. These files made it so easy to share, save and transfer from one body to another. (imagine a fleet of 1D3 for a newspaper etc.)

I had several completely different .csd files for the MkIII that I relied upon for my various shooting shooting. A B.I.F. one of course, but I also at that time spent a ot of time shooting events in my dark theatre. So one .csd would be loaded and that would switch the camera to silent shutter, and even dim the 1D's LCD screens down to a preset level! (and a host of other settings custom for dark theatre work) Thsi was all done in the body with the memory card, no need to tether.

I actually spoke with a Canon rep about doing this on the 5D Mk4 and that's how I learned the 1D-series bodies could do this (haven't owned a 1D-series yet).

With all the extreme customization available on the new R-series bodies it only makes sense to make this ability more available now.

EOS R3 | EOS R5 | EOS R | 5D Mk4
RF 70-200 f/2.8L IS | RF 28-70 f/2L | RF 24-70 f/2.8L IS | RF 15-35 f/2.8L IS

Cyberdyne

Sound like your impressed with the R5. would you say it is a good replacement for my 5DIV? a question on it to replace my 90D, since the 90D is 32 mp (APS-C) and would be an effective roughly 75mm full frame, and the R5 I heard is 17 mp at APS-C, if I was doing a really tight crop of a bird 200+ yards away, which would give better resuts assuming the same sharpness? I guess I am asking would it also replace the 90D for when I am shooting across the pond
