I guess we shall see, the patent shows the air exhaust out the top of the adapter, that air has to come from somewhere and somewhere that will actually make a difference with the temperatures inside the camera.

You can't pull air out of the camera without replacing with something. Keeping that replacement air free of dust is going to be the issue.

Air and heat are 2 different things. What that patent diagram looks like to me is that the cylinder where light passes to the sensor is still sealed. Air flows around it - cool air in at the bottom, warm air out... wherever. It still has the effect of pulling heat away from the sensor. A heat sink for a computer. An intercooler for a forced induction engine.

Yes, that makes sense based on the patent drawing, it would indeed pull heat or give heat an easy exit from inside the camera from the sensor/shutter area. However again, either you have to use EF/EFS lenses, or perhaps you can just put the body cap onto the adapter and turn it on to be a dedicated cooler while not in use. Place the camera down on the rear panel side and leave the adapter cooler run for a several minutes.... Be sure to bring a couple extra batteries!

Yes, I could even see them potentially using some form of peltier technology for more rapid cooling, when required, even if that necessitated some form of external power source.

Isn't it incredible just how much difference a bad/good teacher can make. Thermodynamics wasn't one of my favourites...

That device was already announced, just not by Canon. Canon didn't have any peltier plates in their patent.

But that was just something attached to the back. You'd like to think Canon might develop something a little more integral.

Pity, I considered the R the beta tester.

I don't shoot vids so I want the R5 to be a stellar 5D4 still photo camera replacement for me, in 2-3 years when MSRP pricing has really dropped.

Same for me, I was really liking the idea of changing from the 5DM4 but I'd rather have a camera with the bugs worked out like the 5DM4...

Anyone preorder from B&H say anything other than "back ordered"?

First exam with the first teacher the average was around 40%. He said "I've never seen anything like it." Then he shrugged his shoulders and moved on to the next chapter. Next semester with a new teacher, the average was about 55%. He said "We are going to stop here until everyone understands this material." Night and day...

Anxiously awaiting shipping notification from Canon...

Just got off the phone with B&H support. Apparently no R5s will start shipping until Monday at the earliest, despite their product page stating tomorrow. Disappointing.

Adorama just emailed and said my R5 is now back-ordered despite me having ordered it the day of the announcement. Does anyone who has ordered a popular huge ticket item upon release have any insight on how long I might be waiting? I know it would be purely speculation, but still... I like anecdotal experience.

Has anyone with a UK R5 pre-ordered heard any updates about delivery?

Mine is pre-ordered through Wex, but only from July 16th, So I’m guessing I won’t be in the first shipment :(
