Yep, this is why I’m sending it to get looked at before giving up on it. My 7D was flakey, too, compared to most and they threw a new daughter board in and it still runs like a Tank today. Their early QC on new bodies always seems to have more misses than in later runs and this particular model was having such supply problems, I imagine there was some pressure on the QC schedules that led to a number of those misses here.
It sucks, and I really wish Canon would pay more attention to that stuff on new releases.

Welp; they turned it around MUCH faster than anticipated, and did it as a warranty repair, so YAY! :) Just retrieved the R5 from the local shop that handles the returns/shipping for me in these cases and the notes show that they just wholesale replaced the main board and display...I'm not even sure they did any testing around my notes that were sent, given the turn around time.

So, we'll have to see how things go once the long dark around here clears up and I have some time to do a few shoots. BUT, the eye detect looks to be behaving much better now and has yet to try to refocus on any other part of the cat, no matter how quickly I pan around with her in the VF...LOL Also, no jumping around or "settling" time on the IS through the VF; image is stabilized as soon as I bring the camera up and I cannot hear the IBIS unit with the camera in my hands any longer.

Will report back on any, new lockups (or lack thereof) over the next dozen outings or so.

The asterisk on the chart shows that the CFx cards lower than 512GB (the Gold series) do not have the bandwidth for 8k video, which isn't even an issue for the R6.

But for 4k 120fps, I'd have to test it, but I "think" you can do it just fine with the V60 SD cards.

I'm in the process of planning new card purchases for the EOS R3, and since I don't do massive bursts, nor do I plan to shoot 6k video, I'm getting 128GB V60 SD cards to go with the 128GB Gold CFx cards.
That combination has worked great for me with the EOS R5 and I don't see the need to spend the extra money on V90 SD cards. If that changes, it will likely be because of a client request for 6k video or something else I can't do with the V60 cards. When that time comes, the jobs will pay enough to justify the V90 cards.
Meanwhile I'm sticking with the more affordable ProGrade V60 SD cards.

Just ordered some ProGrade V60 128GB SD cards for the EOS R3. ProGrade has a discount right now if you use the code SD128READER (external link) on their website.

No sales on the 128GB CFx cards yet, but B&H has a deal on them and I just saved $70. Sale is good for the next 4 hours: https://www.bhphotovideo.com …_128gb_cfexpress_2_0.html (external link)

Gold? I have one, and it can't handle the higher video bandwidths. The video will start, but end a short period of time later.

I was answering rndman's question that started this discussion...."Which CFExpress card is preferred (now that they are closer in the price)"
He had a link to the card I own, the Gold. Asked for thought's. I quoted his post. He knew it would not handle higher video bandwidths.

Delkin Cards & Reader

Important info if anyone using Delkin USB 3.2 CFexpress™ TYPE B MEMORY CARD READER:

Delkin and Lightroom. The cards come set for maximum speed but not directly accessible by Lightroom. If you want to switch the setting, you can use a Delkin utility. Here is a link describing the setting and how to get the utility.

Rumours of a new firmware update, 1.5.0. Let's hope it will solve the locking up problem, which has affected many of us owners.

I happened once, maybe twice when I first got it but not since. I wonder if is EF and adapter related. Any chatter about that? I have only had RF lenses on that body since day one.

Funnily enough, mine seems to work happily with EF lenses and the adapter. I'm pretty sure it only happens with my RF 24-100L, but I may be tempting fate by saying that. I can't see a firmware update for that lens.

Mine had problems with EF and RF lenses before the repair; still waiting for things to lighten and clear up to be able to see whether the repairs fixed any of it.

More improvements in IBIS would be nice, too. The R5 IBIS seems to be very glitchy with certain lenses, despite a marked improvement in 1.4.0; I am still not getting stability with EF IS lenses as good as I got on APS-C DSLRs. The 400/4DO II improved a lot in this regard with the 2xIII with the R5 1.4.0 firmware, but is still not perfect, and the RF100-400/5.6-8 is not behaving as well as expected for a modern RF lens (even a budget one), IS-wise (AF is very good for a slow, inexpensive lens). I see the viewfinder swimming in video and the EVF, and I see the image in the EVF twitch visibly during bursts, especially with the RF2x. The AF would probably work even better with a more stable EVF.

I'm sure my R5 is not defective, because the IBIS works almost magically with the RF24-240; I can get at least 1/3 shots pixel-stable in a burst at 1/10s with a stable subject, at 240mm (24/focal_length). Canon seems to be approaching IBIS and IBIS/lens coordination in some way that needs tedious tweaking per lens, AFAICT, and it is more focused on larger blurs and is not tight enough for consistent fine detail, IMO (I need to play the percentages in a burst).

It would be very nice, as well, if Canon swallowed their pride and allowed us to turn off IBIS that we don't need, based on per-lens memory like we had individual MFA tweaks for lenses on most recent DSLRs.

Take a look at the fawns one rear leg, the effects of Rolling Shutter in ES, its a throw away image, but I just wanted to show the effects of RS... Early low light and lots of recovery power, Iso 12,800 cleaned up well with the help of Topaz Denoise

Interesting. Why there is RS impact if no panning and/or motion?

I got a healthy dose of this issue at Del Mar Saturday. Decided to go with the mechanical shutter instead for fast action panning.

Note the leaning finish line post and the leaning condo's in the background.

Word on the street is that an Upcoming R5C is on the way. It's an R5 with active cooling geared towards video. Some fo the features are very appealing. If it's true that it is only $300.00 more than the R5, I could see grabbing it even if you are a stills shooter.
