Currently thinking about switching back to a canon R5 from sony A7R3.

The only question i have at the moment that i can't find an answer for are:
does it do zebra striping in photo mode?
or Highlight Alert while shooting/live view

So that you can get highlight warning when using the viewfinder .

I haven't figured out how to get zebra striping in photo mode, only video mode.

You could use crop mode to reduce the file size.

I'll have to revisit this, but what I've learned from crop mode is that it applies it to the metadata of the raw file but you still have the full resolution available.
In Lightroom I would see that an image was cropped but the original image was still available. Basically crop mode only saves me the trouble of doing it in post.

However, if you mount an EF-s lens then you're more likely to get a true crop. I'll have to try that and see what the difference is.

Why is that a problem?

If I'm shooting an event I may not want/need the full 45MP resolution for thousands of images that will likely only be posted online.

Ok I was not aware of that. From one of the many videoes I have seen I got the impression that crop would result in cropped images at a lower pixelcount.

Anyone know if the R5 has magnify when critically focusing manually.

On my A7rIII I have a custom button set to magnify for focusing manually. Hit it again and it returns to normal view

I seen that. It is a good deal. I ordered this today. I'm not sure I want to come home to a full 258GB card to cull and post 3 shots. I have a 2000X Lexar SD for a back up. I'm Lexar fan.

I should point out that the readers are on backorder but since I don't have the camera yet it doesn't matter to me.

It does. The camera has a dedicated "magnify" button. Pressing the button goes to 6x then 15x then back to 1x.

Image editing ok; C&C always welcome.

I stay away from Lexar since Micron sold the company name to another holding group based in China so that Micron could retool their production lines and focus on enterprise NVMe and SAS drives.

I think Prograde is essentially the old managerial staff and maybe some engineers on a new production facility subcontractor (probably somewhere in Taiwan or Shenzhen hopefully).

I believe these are the version 1 not version 2 GOLD, they are a bit slower but likely wouldn't matter for stills.

As long as this overheating is not a concern for regular stills photography, then it looks like this R5 is a sensible and great upgrade for the canon line up....puts it right there with the A9 with specs and performance

Its too bad canon over sold this camera for videographers- I see why they are pisssy about this product

As long as this overheat situation DOES NOT EFFECT stills photographers who shoot events and weddings.....I think canon has a winner for these markets with the R5

So far I have not read a single incident that the camera has shut down shooing stills- Just heat warn lights

I think image quality with heat warn lights on needs to be researched more. If it gets a green light and stills photographers can use with confidence............ARE YOU READY FOR THIS........R5 for me. I can use the 5D4 and 1Dx2 at receptions until one of them wears out....and then I will grab an R6 for smaller file needs like wedding receptions

Hows that for a change of heart :p:-P
