B & H is where I have my order in... still says back order on my battery...

I just bought one from them (B & H)Friday at 11am. Shipped on Sunday. Did not have it pre-ordered. Saw it posted somewhere they had in stock. Rechecked and they show it in stock as of 2 minutes ago.

I just tried calling and they closed Friday at 2pm until Tuesday 9/29 for Yom Kippur .... maybe that’s why that part of my order hasn’t shipped? I ordered a cf card, grip and battery...still waiting on the battery..... well..... and the damn camera lol. No biggie.... but it would be nice to have everything when the camera gets here.... also, I would think an order I placed well over a month ago would be filled before a new order... but guess not lol

I think that sucks. I have not pre-ordered before, and based on your experience , have my doubts as to the workings. If you are getting camera and other things, that is a 5K order. Really should come before my $79 order.

I've had an R5 on back order with B&H since July 15, along with a lens adapter. So seeing that they are shipping to new, just-received orders like yours makes me wonder wtf they are doing.

You misunderstood me. Sorry. My original answer was about availability of batterys. I "only" ordered a new battery for my R5 from B & H.
I actually got my R5 from an A/V dealer in Austin, TX. Delivered last Monday.

Clipper,
I had this happen on my new R5 shooting with a EF 300mm F2.8 IS II and a 2X III. In an hour and a half session shooting hummingbirds, it happened 1 time for sure , lasted maybe 20-30 seconds and then started working normal again. Shooting with animal eye AF.
Perhaps a common issue that hopefully will be fixed in a future firmware release. I was shooting with version 1.1.0 and updated to 1.1.1 the next morning, but no shooting yet.
Dave

Weird thing is it is spasmodic and I cant really find common factors in camera settings when it occurred the 3 times so far. There is however an external common factor regarding the camera freeze and thats whats been reported by prime owners of the 300mm f2.8 IS II 400mm f2.8 IS II and 500mm f4 IS II . Interestingly the Canon technical Bulletin on compatible lens for its HSpeed+ Mechanical shutter includes 300mm 400mm and 500mm IS II's in its list of compatible lens so they have obviously tested these models on R5 extensively as you would expect . Or at least I hope they did :)

Interestingly both the ef400mm f2.8 ISII and ef400mm f2.8 IS III are not in that list for electronic 20FPS yet older 500mm etc are listed?? That seems crazy given the III is only a couple of years old max old in its product lifecycle. And not cheap as was the II when it was still being sold by Canon a year ago. Must be all that glass the 400mm f2.8's have that slow it down in speed on AF as I cant think of anything else that would be different to the ef500mm f4 IS I etc

A list of R5 HSpeed+ 12fps and Electronic 20fps compatible lens is here

Ordered my R5 via CPW on 7/10, my name finally came up on the list to be filled from the 3rd shipment last week and it shipped yesterday (Camera Canada). They had an "extra" grip after filling other orders so I added it on as well. Should be delivered Mon if goes as planned.

I haven't been out with the new toy yet but I did some programming yesterday and changed a few things up from my R. So far my only dislike is where they put the Rating button. The R just had the Menu button there and I keep pressing it. I have not seen that I can configure it.

I'm going to give this a try.

I normally shoot Auto ISO.

M-Fn = set to toggle between Fv and C1-3. Here are my main configurations for my most used AF modes. Single, Zone and Face and Tracking.

Movie button = toggle between Eye and Non Eye detect. Since I shoot mostly animals so I registered Human/Animal in the green menus. I may assign the Lock or Light button to that later.

Star button = toggle between Display and EVF. The EVF wakes up faster if you disable the EVF sensor and let the camera go directly to the EVF.

Multi-Controller moves AF point/s around pressing centres them. I also enabled the LCD to move them around which I prefer. Using it to centre the AF point/s is handy.

Quick control dial = EC

AF point selection button = Drive Mode. Drive modes are configured in the C1-3 but this gives me quick access.

Lens Control Ring = AF Modes. I'm not a big fan of the ring and AF modes are also configured in to the C1-3 modes so I don't often change them. I think this will be handy as well.

Top dial changes shutter speeds.

Back dial toggles between RV, AV Exposure and ISO

Just got "the call" from my local camera store. I'm picking up my R5 tomorrow (Sept 30)!

Unless I'm mistaken... isn't today September 29?

:)

They are still in stock at B&H and Adorama. If it were me, I'd cancel the pre-order and make another order. I was also able to get the R5 grip from B&H, but stock was short lived.

Question:

Is the Prograde CFexpress Cobalt a good card for the R5? I read the specs and know it can handle all the R5 offers, but just want to know if the card is dependable vs. the Sony tough cards.

I was dead set on the Sony Tough card, but began thinking about the Cobalt specs with it having a minimum read speed of 1400 MB/s, which provides a lot of headroom for the higher video resolution.

Can anyone point me to a speed test of the Cobalt card?

Thanks...
