Reflecting on the pricing. The 5D4 was released at $3,499 is considered an excellent camera by many. I owned one. The 5R is another $400. Newly designed 45 megapixel sensor. What looks to be incredible AF improvements, more fps and improved high ISO performance.

So let's look at that extra $400. How much R&D went into the non video portion to produce this camera? Released in 2016. How much would have inflation would have added to the cost of a 5DV? $200?

No, your img says up to 20fps (which is live view e-shutter). Canon's own website says up to 16fps OVF (what is mechanical shutter).

In live view you have the option of either mechanical shutter, electronic shutter, or electronic shutter first curtain. All live view mode you can shoot up to 20 FPS. Again I am speaking about the Canon 1DX mark3

I am definitely going to get an R5 at some point. I'll wait, however. I am never an early adopter, as I am purely a hobbyist. I picked up my 5D4 with 40 clicks on it for $2200 or so at the Canon refurb store during one of the Canon sale events. I will doubtless do the same for the R5.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

The R5 and R6 look like nice cameras but for my purposes sports, wildlife and large variety of subjects I will be using mechanical shutter and the speed of the 1DX3 plus no limitations or heat issues is best for me. I love mine. Going down to 12 FPS would be a downgrade and 20 FPS is only available in electronic shutter on these cameras. I will wait for the reviews and price drops. The over heating issue really eliminates one of the things I thought would make the R5 a perfect compliment to my 1DX3. So I will wait and see how this all plays out.

It’s not related to stills, only high quality video

Exactly. I'll just be glad to get back to 10 fps (2 more with R) after shooting 5 since last Sept. I'm to sure I'll ever need more but I'll see what this rolling shutter is is all about.

The cameras with pure electronic (slow rolling) shutters (AKA "quiet mode") for stills should come with a pamphlet that explains and visually demonstrates their limitations; a lot of people have botched the photography of unrepeatable events with this mode.

Over the decades, the camera manufacturers have provided less and less information to its customers about technical details and how-to-use their products. Blame the CONSUMER who never bothers to READ the documentation that the manufacturers spent great deals of money to generate and supply!
The average user simply does not TRY to understand anything apart from the 'Quick start' type of information (if they read that even) For many products you do not even get a PDF to download, or a PDF on DVD included with the product.

But I was really looking forward to the video features with IBIS in a small package to compliment by 1DX3.

It’s a problem in electronic shutter for fast moving subjects and a disaster under artificial light.

I have not seen the R5 or R6 manual but it is clearly stated in the 1DX3 manual. Electronic shutter has a whole bunch of limitations. So the 1DX3 offers both at up to 20 FPS no compromises.

4K 30 pixel binned, and 4K 30 aps-c mode is safe and it’s certainly nice to have a fallback when the high modes overheat.

They pulled about 30 excellent links I had to detailed articles, etc.

I will wait until we get real reviews and see if Canon does anything in firmware to address the heat issues.

It will be interesting to see if they can do anything. There's a lot of computing and data being moved around and I don't think there is much much software can do about it, except to go to a reduced-feature mode (loss of resolution, frames-per-second, or something else)
