Ford has announced the new Broncos for 2021. Wonder how they will stack-up against the vintage Broncos.

The Broncos of old are considered classics today...

I thought the old ones were really cool - but after clicking on the provided link, that thing they're calling a Bronco doesn't remind me of the original at all. To me, this seems to be nothing but a branding exercise, sad to say.

Looks like a bad mashup between the more recent Jeep models and the lesser Land Rovers - but maybe that's just me? Too harsh ?

I'm not sure what to think just yet. I know the new Bronco Sport is based on the Ford Escape. So yes, a branding exercise.

But I need to know more about the other Broncos. But they won't be released until next year. Looks like Ford is trying to whip-up
anticipation.

True. Also, maybe it looks different / better in real life :-)

I think what throws me most is how wide it looks (almost like a "squat" stance) compared with the old ones. Of course, that's probably dictated by modern safety standards - the originals were more than likely roll-over-happy and very dangerous compared to today's vehicles.

They seem to be aimed directly at the jeep market. I wonder of there is enough buyers there that arent dedicated to jeep culture to be successful. If the offroad features don't diminish the daily driver experience then maybe they are on to something

I saw one recently and it was gross looking. I don't have faith in any of these retro vehicles. Toyota killed off the FJ after the '16 model year. I'd buy that all day long, but no Jeeps or Fords for me, and the Blazer is a joke. Haha. I'll stick with my 4Runners.

But while we're on the topic, I keep seeing these little Mahindras that look cool. The best part is that they have a turbo diesel and almost no electronics.

It looks like off-roading for the Fast & Furious crowd :( It'd be wonderful if they'd stop trying to make retro lines relevant again and simply focus on making fun, interesting vehicles that stand on their own again.

Remember when "SUV" was not a word, and there were only two of them in the US? (Bronco and Blazer)

Those were good times.

.
I think the new Broncos are hideously ugly in appearance.

I had a 1973 Bronco years ago, and I liked the look of the Broncos of that era. . They made that general style until 1977, and then in 1978 they changed to some newfangled design, which I didn't care for one bit. . In my opinion, the last nice looking Bronco they ever made was the 1977 model year.

I'm commenting only on the aesthetics of the Bronco, as that is what appeals to me. . I have no idea about engines or engineering or anything like that ..... just care about the looks when it comes to old classics.

I'm sure that this new Bronco is much more pleasant to drive than the old pre-1978 classics, but man, why did they have to make it look so unappealing?

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

I have mixed feelings about the appearance. Not my favorite design, but I don't consider it hideous. But could be better.
I wonder how these new Broncos will hold up in off-road use. Can they take some abuse like the original Broncos? Time will tell.

The new Broncos are available in 7 versions - wow! But not cheap, with the lowest priced Bronco starting at $28,500. The Wildtrak version starts at $48,875.

I rather like the looks of them. I don't typically buy cars less than ten years old, but if in a decade from now they are holding up well I would consider one. Especially if Toyota/Lexus keeps making their vehicles uglier and uglier. But generally the only Fords I'm interested in have dual rear wheels and dump beds.

Canon 80D and kit zooms. Also 50mm 1.8 and 10-16mm.

Let's hope it's a better attempt than what the Mustang II was:lol:

I have a feeling they're not going to last very long. The 'off road' version will likely be littered with electronics. Not my cup. Think Jeep. There's a reason there aren't many Jeeps in the Outback or Saharan Africa. Even the new Defender is a sorry excuse for a Defender.

I would probably only buy a Ford if I needed to tow a LOT of weight. Otherwise it's Toyota for me. I'm not particularly picky about the looks of vehicles, as long as they last. I've never had a car payment before, so I always drive old vehicles. My '04 4Runner just hit 197k, and I'm gonna drive it to the Dakotas next week.

Could be worse. Remember the first gen Probe? That was supposed to be the new Mustang, lol. Front wheel drive and all! Or that 4dr, electronic 'Mustang' that's on their website now. I live in the Detroit area and I've never even seen one. Lol.
