Hi all,
I have recently purchased a pair of Godox QS400II strobes and a X2T-C trigger.

Whilst my original intention was to shoot manually with these, I noted there is a TTL option on the remote, however playing around with it doesn't really seem to achieve much beyond manual, you can still easily overpower the strobes and whiteout the image without the camera of flash compensating in any way.

Has anyone here got any experience with these units and the X system?

I thought TTL might have been useful for initial metering of a scene without having an actual meter.

TTL is useful in taking the place of a meter, but to use it, the camera, the trigger, and the light has to be TTL-capable. While your Canon camera body and the X2T-C can both do TTL, the QS400 II cannot do either TTL or HSS. So you can't use TTL.

The Godox AD "Witstro" lights (e.g., AD200, AD400 Pro, AD600 (not the AD600M, which is manual)) and TT350/V350, TT685/V860II, and V1 speedlights can all do TTL/HSS. But iirc, none of the AC-powered monolights from Godox are TTL-capable, and only the QT/QT II series can do HSS.

Cool thanks for settling that! I figured I was pretty much stuck with manual exposure on the setup.
