Couple from today. Needless to say, it's a busy feeder.

This bird was captured, documented, banded and marked as part of a federally licensed and regulated research project.

Here it is being processed. These birds are very smart and very rarely will go back into a trap. Recapturing is quite difficult.

We have a few birds wintering at our house. It has been snowing here for the last couple of days with total accumulation of over 9 inches. It is quite amazing that these little birds can survive these conditions but so far, so good and they continue to defend their feeder when necessary.

Bob,

Nice shot of how these little birds really are. They are really protective of the food sources and we can have one protecting three feeders at a time.
Yes it is really cold. At least for us NW USA folks. these two are deciding to coexist at the moment even thought the far one is usually guarding this feeder.
My wife and I are having to go out side every half hour to swap out the freezing feeders and put thawed ones out since they have grown accustomed to us feeding them year round. We are having to set the alarm for 6am to get the first ones out and ready for them when they wake up.
This is from inside through a window.

This is the real bully watching over three feeders in front. This is not cropped and taken from outside and not through a window.

Beautiful.

I learn a lot on this forum and I soon found out these little beauties can be aggressive little so and so's
Nature!
They look such peaceful, delightful little characters.
