Seriously. I was trying to explain it to my daughter, and it was something like this,.

"well I've spent the last 20 years trying to make the AF in my cameras work for birds in flight, it always felt like trying to use a hammer to pout in a brass screw, and it took 3 or 4 of those first years to get any results at all. This camera appears to have made all that work pointless"

Yes absolutely agree on the pointless:)...Infact to me amongst all that fantastic game changing AF technology was a slight negative in that in the old days a BIF nailed tacksharp was once in a couple of hundred shots( or at least for me it was) and was something excitedly anticipated when finally getting the image into Lightroom and seeing it . Now a) Im seeing tack sharp BIF or Bats in almost every camera burst I do and b) the viewfinder is giving me high res feedback on whats sharp or not when I review later so no excitement waiting for the big reveal in Lightroom !!

Like explaining to your daughter a mate of mine when asking me about it wanted me to explain better on how revolutionary this was to Bird/Wildlife photography and I gave him a comparison that he who wasnt a photographer could understand . As he was a mad golfer I told him that imagine if he had a guidance system sensor that he could wear that could lock on the pin on the green and no matter how bad his technique was as long as he covered the pin with guidance points his ball would go in. :)

Then the penny dropped and his comment was...."Jeez thats great but it must take bit of the fun out of it as for me its that one perfect shot amongst all the crappy shots I do that keeps me going back!!"

Luckily enough things like finding a new bird Ive never photographed before , getting right lighting conditions etc etc is still a huge challenge so untill that becomes easy at least there is still a fair level of anticipation over getting that top shot

Cheers

Yeah. I will start worrying about it when they come up with a camera that
- wakes up in the morning,
- goes to your spot,
- takes a bunch of "sharp" pictures,
- comes back,
- loads it into the LR or something,
- processes them superbly and then
wakes you up with warm breakfast and coffee to show (off) what it has done that morning... :-P

Thanks! And yes, they would be rather boring without the extra splash of color!

It was a long day full of meetings so why not wind down and get into a holiday mood...with a festive jumping spider!

Not sure how one makes a spider appear festive and Christmasy, but you did it!
