With 45MP camera, of course it is great for prints! What I meant was the heavily cropped photo of the Belted Kingfisher that I posted wasn't good for printing but decent enough for web sharing.

I think he was talking his extreme crop.
The "crop-ability" of the R5 is amazing,. but when you go in that far, it's not good from prints.

EDIT lol, posted at pretty much the same time...

Phew, OK, thanks.

Just took delivery of the Sigma 105 f1.4 DG HSM (Bokeh Master) and let me tell ya that name is deserved. Here's a quick pic of my house bunny Buttercup. She's a cutie to day the least and was a sweetheart to pose for me. I took one at f1.4 but I rather prefer the 2.8 shots as the entire head is far more in focus obviously. I can't wait to do a paid portrait. It's so dang easy to nail it with this lens.

The reviews I'd seen weren't lying. It's one heavy beast. But actually isn't bad if your not constantly holding it up. I find it very easy to carry without even any fatigue if held with the camera hanging from my fingers on the grip. When I take the shot it's very nicely balanced, comfortable and manageable holding the nice Arca Swiss bracket too which surprised me. I don't think I'll actually ever need to remove it. Well I'm off to have some more fun.

It is a magnificent lens. I love mine. One of the big improvements for me on moving from the 5DMKIII to the R5 was being able to nail eye focus wide open with this lens. On the R5 it is beautiful and very easy. On the 5DIII I could get a decent hit rate with the center focus point and would crop in post to get the framing I wanted. Using other focus points yielded very few sharp eye focus hits. Most of the time it would be on the soft side.

Finally had a nice day and a great little play with the R5 on the beach today. Very happy with the results using 100-400mm II and 1.4x. Thsi thing just doesn't miss focus!

After 8 months of covid lockup in Melb/Victorria we are now free to roam . No new cases for 30+ days and we can all go anywhere we like...well at least within Australia that is ....And more importantly means no more same wildlife repeated a hundred times over as we have had to do here due to having to be confined within 5 kms of home for last 4 months of the 8 months confinement !

In Apollo Bay - Western Victoria and touching base with a few old feathered friends of mine :) Raining but great to be out and about!

It would be interesting to know what the IBIS performance is like, given that many older Sigma lenses give the wrong lens info to the camera, yielding wildly wrong IBIS parameters. Do you know if the Canon 2xIII fits inside of it?

It is interesting that the front element is 1.4x the entrance pupil size. Most primes of that focal length have front elements just barely larger than the entrance pupil.

another local feathered friend of mine ( yellow tail cockatoo) who came to say gday. This guy is timid though and wont come too close to say hi ...These guys are very easily spooked so getting him within 2o-30 meters was very lucky. They also like being high so backlit problems normally make for so so images although this time not too bad.

It fits, but only if the focus is close to the MFD. So I guess you could use it for macro with one of those mechanical focusing systems that move the entire camera? Not sure, I'm just getting started on macro. At any rate, here is a shot I took with the combo just now. It was on a small tripod in "monopod mode", i.e., I got tired of moving the tripod around and was balancing on two legs as I positioned the shot. Needless to say, it was in manual focus mode. The IBIS symbol does come up and EXIF does call out the Sigma 105, though it doesn't seem to indicate the presence of the Canon 2x III.
