Thanks guys I appreciate the kind words (thanks to the great camera ;-)a). I am really liking the R5. The 400mm is my favorite lens out of what I have used. I do feel the R5 and the 400mm combo works very well together.

How about a comment on your feelings with the R5 + 100-400 II?

Thanks.

Two airplane photos from today, first one from a dark underground hangar and the second one from a flyover at the local airport.

Did you use mechanical shutter or electronic shutter for this flight shot?

Crop mode is not better but may have advantages depending on your needs. I do not need every file to be 45mp and more so taking all the pics at 45mp to come home and throw away half the mp's seems a waste. If I can fill and compose the frame for what I want then 17/18 mp is fine for me.

Robamy

Please dont take this comment with any disrespect at all- I love your work and what your doing with your images in post

But I dont see a lot of differences BT the 1DX2 and when You updated to the 1Dx3 and now from on EOS R to the R5 updates

images look similar

So I think you are in a unique position

I think the images are all outstanding- What would be big reasons for you to consider upgrading now that you have used the 1Dx3 and R5 a lot

are you experiencing any shooting situations where the R5 warn lights are on ?

Does it feel like its getting hot as compared to your EOS R use and 1Dx3 use ??

Really trying to determine why all of a sudden we have a camera overheat concern and all the images are looking similar in appearance

I did not get the R5 due to image quality over any of the cameras you mention, they are all good I'm my opinion. I was one right from the get go thinking 8k was going to get hot, it has too in the R5 form factor. So not a big deal to me. I never had any issues with heat so far with still images. The CFExpress card gets warm but that is it. The CFExpress cards get warm in the 1dx Mark III also in live view or video. I have done very little video so far so again no heat issues. I do use the grip on the R5 so not sure if that helps with heat or not. Batteries never feel warm.

Now why I wanted the R5 over the 1dx Mark III is the extra MP's, Animal Eye Tracking, 20fps full silent looking thru the EVF ( I need the hoodman loupe with the 1dx ) The R5 is outstanding with the Animal tracking and with the Animal Eye Tracking. I can crop much more if needed than the 1dx Mark III, I like having a crop mode with the 17/18 mp file in camera then taking full 45 mp files only to crop later and throw away the mp's anyway. I think the R5 paired with my 400mm f2.8 makes an incredible wildlife setup.

I also really liked the Eos R but it was slow for what I wanted it to do, but really liked the files. The R5 fixed everything about the R I wanted improvement like by 1000%. I cautiously say I like it better than the 1dx Mark III for wildlife, with that said comparing its not really fair. They are different tools for the job you need it for. I would really like them to add the AEF to the 1dx Mark III and really compare them.
