Just a wee little song sparrow, but I have been struggling with my Mk1 500mm and very disappointed with the captures that I was getting.

Went to the 70-200 f2.8 with an X2 extender and finally managed to get a capture that I was happier with. Should have been in a wider aperture but am happy with the eye focus and especially since the bird was surrounded by numerous branches closer to me than it. Waiting patiently for the RF 100-500. sigh!

Thanks.

I love my 500mm and it works fantastic on my 1Dx but alas I have not been able to figure out how to use it with my R5. Have tried virtually all the settings that I can think of including turning off the stabilization altogether. Even with a super fast shutter speed have not been able to get a capture that comes close to the 1Dx combo.

Not sure what the issue is but think that it is the auto focus, it never stops trying to get a focus when I have a focus button depressed. It seems to walk back and forth and although I do get a "green" square indication proper focus, when I look at the captured image it is always soft. vmad

Did you by any chance enable the "Continuous AF"?

Well, it's been a very long time, POTN people! I was very active way back in the day, but switched to mirrorless about 11 years ago and drifted away. After 5 years with Sony, I fell in love with the R6, and later added an R5 and switched entirely to the RF line. Here are a handful of images from my R5 from the last month or so:

Thanks. We've got a mix of the RF 24-105L, RF 70-200/2.8L, Tamron 17-35mm f/2.8-4, Irix 11mm (which I had briefly, but replaced with the Sigma 12-24mm f/4), TTArtisan 11mm Fisheye and Laowa 15mm f/4.5 Shift.

Love these images, especially the interior of the cave shot. Where was this taken?
