I tried the newly updated Capture One Pro on the R5 files. It was a lot faster to work with the large 45mpix files there than in Lightroom. Anyways, here are re-edits done in Capture One Pro.

Can someone run a quick test for me? The manual says that high speed+ continuous shooting with the mechanical shutter will give 12 frames per second. There is a disclaimer, though, that the shutter speed must be 1/1000 or faster.

I shoot airshows and I'm usually at 1/160. Can someone try a burst at that shutter speed and let me know how many shots/second the R5 can take?

Image editing ok; C&C always welcome.

I'm really glad to read that C! has support for the r5 this fast. they seemed glacially slow on the 1DXIII, which was unusual for them. Glad to hear they are back to normal.

It was nice see C1 users get the support so quickly. DNG is a pain.

Me too! i can't stand the snail slow Lightroom. Capture One Pro is so much faster to work with the heavy files from the R5. Now i'm just waiting for DxO PhotoLab to get updated with R5 and R6 support but that should not be too far off in the future.

One thing I've noticed playing with sample images is that the new AA filter allows more sharpening without the sharpening causing unnatural-looking artifacts. I don't think that the AA filter is actually sharper per se, but rather, it is more sharpening-friendly. Consequently, the DIGIC JPEG engine and DPP are probably sharpening R5 images more at the pixel level, by default.

If I shoot in RAW all the time, does this have any effect on those files?

Rob that Swallow is magnificent.
You've stopped it dead in the air. Colours are beautiful.

All very well done.

Thank you Richard. Now if they stopped in the air in real life, it would make this so much easier

yes - I thought after my comment it didn't really address the skill in doing it. It just sounds toooooo easy :-P
But I know from watching ours that is so far from the mark :-)

Only the metadata is affected by any default conversion parameters. The actual underlying RAW image is unaffected by such things, so a flexible converter can still give you a full range of conversion options.

Are you finding the lack of mirror slap vs the 1Dx-series cameras to be helpful in having less images that are just a tiny bit blurred due to slap?

No matter how good your AF, it can only focus on things in the frame, which is much of the challenge with some subjects.

I suspect that if a lot of people are like me, they don't develop the tracking skills for erratic subjects that come with much time trying, because even if they get them in the frame, the more primitive AF that they've been using doesn't reward with a lot of successes, anyway. There is likely more of a reward motive to develop the tracking skills when FOV tracking with the lens itself is the only major battle.

I don't know how so many great pictures are taken with a POS camera that is always overheating! lol. Mine hasn't even shown the white warning sign yet. Mine seems to only take pictures of puppies.

Puppies that like to dig in the mud. Incidentally, at 100% I can read her tag perfectly.

Does anyone have a CFexpress card reader they like? Or do you just transfer directly from the camera? That's what I'm doing now, but I don't know how the speed works out. The reviews on the readers are all over the place, but seem to be largely negative.
