The babies have arrived.

Perhaps "hatched" would be more accurate.

A couple shots from yesterday, the colors on these really surprised me. These were shot close to the ground and in mid-morning, I got extremely lucky with the light and how it was shining through some of the foliage. Very little editing on these other than cropping and bringing out the colors from the RAW files.

Both shot with the 100-500L and the RF 1.4x converter

WOW! What a set of great photos!

Thanks! I'm lucky enough to live pretty close to a large indoor butterfly conservatory so you're pretty much guaranteed to get at least a couple decent shots if you spend the day there

These owlets always remind me of muppets for some reason

How often do you see/find these nests in your area? I know we have them around here as well but I rarely run into them myself

Not often at all, screech owls are easier to find.

I've been struggling to get out very much this year so far. This image is from Chicopee Woods Nature Preserve a place I'm able to sneak away around lunch sometimes and do a little hiking/photography. I'm finding it pretty nice, although it isn't quite like being in the mountains its a great place to be so near a town. There are two/three main streams inside the preserve, of which this is one. None are huge but are nice when the water flow is high enough. I have found the preserve to be a treasure trove of wildflowers, in some cases species that I rarely see elsewhere.
