Nice shots Robamy, Ive been watching your r5 output since this thread started with great interest and its these and those swallows you nailed in flight that was enough for me to finally decide today to pull the trigger on the r5 and order it from our local dealer :)...

Originally hadnt intended to get the R5 as the 5dsr's 50 meg sensor was fine for what I needed in field coupled with the fact I was worried about going back to an AA filter as the non AA sensor on the 5dsr coupled with my 400 f2.8 Mk2 prime was sharp sharp........ but after seeing how sharp these ones of your have been I dont have a concern now. These shots of yours are as sharp as any of my 5DSR shots with similar primes in fact in a lot of instances sharper!....And Im putting this down in some of your shots to the double whammy that yourr getting with IBIS camera stabilization coupled with lens IS. . So that sold it for me ....... .That and the fact Ive had enough of my DSLR's needing to have lens calibrations done due to back focusing and front focusing issues . I cant wait to throw my lens align gear in the rubbish bin

So...Now after ordering the body I go into a wait here in Oz for 6 weeks till Canon Australia get a new shipment. I look forward to being able to post a few bird shots here in a few weeks time however until then I will just sit back and envy yours :) :)
Cheers

I just put tape over the "5"

Edit: or should I put tape over the R and put a D after the 5, since I never told her I traded the 5D4 for the R. ;-)a

That may have been one of my posts...

Has applied for years when it comes to camera gear and guns, and I use it often. However making $$$ with the cameras and her recent interest in the other means that there is not nearly as frequent a concern over either.

Life is good!

That is a good one. I have a few rolls of black electrical tape kicking around.

Hehe, it's funny how a grown adult man (i assume) has to get permission from his wife when he is about to buy something from his own money. It says something about who rules in the house. :D

/ Magnus

Meh, it's really about knowing who's spending what. If you and your wife both go on a spending spree at the same time it gets hard to pay the mortgage.
.
Of course, I have the opposite issue, my wife is someone who goes "all in". She didn't want me to buy an R5, not because of cost, but because she thought there might be an R1 announced once the R5 orders were all filled. She doesn't even use the camera. -? For her buying an R5 and adapter turned into an R5 with adapter, CFexpress card and reader, battery grip and extra batteries. Because why not? Then there's the "should we go ahead and replace the 24-70? It's pretty old." Once she went down that line of thought and we bought the 24-70 we had to get the 15-35, you know, to keep the same filter thread size. ;-)a Of course, that led to the purchase of new screw on filters, then she saw that there was an adapter with drop in filters. . . . . let me reiterate, she doesn't even use the camera.

Wow, that's impressive Scatterbrained! I usually make those type of arguments and she agrees (possibly just to shut me up ;-)a).

I usually justify the spend by pointing out that I will sell equipment to part fund the process. One thing that she doesn't notice is that I often 'sell' the same bit of equipment multiple times. I 'sold' my 6D and 7Dii to fund the R, now I'm selling them again to part fund the R5 lol.

Obviously my wife can't count :-)

Thanks Clipper, I think you will really enjoy it. It is just a fun camera to use. It has made every lens a bit nicer to use that I have put on it. I would look forward to some of your colorful birds over there.

Thanks Rob. Unfortunately the DO ii is out of my price range, it would never get passed my wife and it's too obvious to hide lol. I did get permission to get the R5 though so there's always hope I suppose!

Sorry I did not mean you should buy the 400mm DO II, your setup is fine. I just tend not to use the 2x on the 100-400mm with other options. The R5 will no doubt work better with the 100-400mm than anything you have put it on so far. The key is just have fun with it :-D

Lots of amazing images in this thread, great to see people are putting the R5 to good use.

Has anyone use it for events, or portrait work yet?

And lets keep the off topic chatter down please, there are plenty of other threads on the forum for talking about the camera, and about the fiscal responsibilities of being in a long term committed relationship.

Been watching the images since the R5 was released. Very nice captures from everyone and espacially Rob. I spent the budget when I purchased the 1Dx III when it came out along with an almost new 400mm d4 DO II. Great camera and lens combination along with my 600 II for what I photograph

Because of physical limitations, I shoot prinarily with a tripod or monopod so the 1Dx III siuits me perfectly. As a result, the R5 will not be in my future but I will continue to check in and see some amazing photographs.
