A female red tailed cockatoo from yesterday. Iso was 6400 and shot is heavily cropped so lost some contrast, sharpness etc as it needed a fair amount of noise control ( topaz).

Prior to R5 the highest iso I would go to was 1600 on a heavily cropped image(70%+) and then it was marginal if it was useable. Would never have envisaged a heavily cropped image like this( approx 80% crop) being useable at 6400. Especially on a full frame sensor over 25mp. That was problem with my old 5DSR. WHilst it had the megapixels it didnt have good iso performance to go with the MP like the R5 does .

Hi Clipper--that is a beautiful red tailed cockatoo--and you nailed it nicely. Regarding 6400 iso--that is also where I try not exceed--but will occasionally even use 25000 or 52100. Lately I've been shooting both raw and jpeg to see if the higher iso noise is more controlled in camera for jpeg's and it is well controlled. Anyway--just information for you that you may already be aware of--but I thought it was worth sharing.
BTW--i love your 5dsr shoots as well as the r5's--and really enjoy viewing your pictures.

Just love the colors . Great to see these fantastic macro shots so keep them coming. Although now after seeing your last lot of images its got me hunting for a damn 100mm macro lens after vowing no more new camera gear for 2021!

Thanks! I'm sure you know that the RF 100mm macro lens is set to be released next month. I've got my pre-order in so I'm very impatiently awaiting it's official release.

I would imagine being in Australia that you would have some very diverse subjects to pick from!
