Yesterday after work was a treat. Mom and her 10 ducklings showed up at the pond. This does not always happen very year and when it does it is a fun time.

We haven't had any airshows in the Pacific Northwest since Sept 2019. The Skyraider is one of my favorite planes. I miss airshows... Image editing ok; C&C always welcome.

Working around in my yard mixing soil etc. Had my camera on the deck just in case there were any birds/aircraft/plants caught my eye, didn't think much that the lens cover was off. We were out for a drive a couple of days after and ran across this unique homemade tank thingee and decided to get a couple of shots. When I took a quick look to see how the capture had come out, was astonished to see that the picture appeared to be foggy but there was no fog around. Happened to look at the front of the lens and was horrified to see how much dust was over the front of the lens. I just couldn't believe it, and the fact that I had not noticed the condition of my lens. ![]() ![]() Any way, I think that the R5 needs an automatic lens cleaner for people like me. So one and all I present to you the before and after pictures of the crime scene. Homemade tank (foggy before cleaning lens) ![]() Homemade tank (after cleaning lens) ![]() Based on the shadows of the sun, it looks like the sun may have been shining directly on the lens, illuminating the dust itself.

Eastcoast Goldmember More info | Yep, it absolutely was. Nonetheless, to my shame, the lens was exceedingly dusty. Lesson for me. John

Nonetheless, to my shame, the lens was exceedingly dusty. Lesson for me. Lighting and contrast are all about ratios. Had you shot it from the other direction, you would probably not notice anything without an actual A/B comparison, under close scrutiny. Unless you are looking to record the lighting context too and not just the subject itself in a makeshift, poor "studio", what you want is a well-lit subject, an unlit lens, and unlit air in-between.
