First jumping spider shots with the RF 100mm Macro lens.

Having the distance/magnification meter in the EVF is a huge benefit. With the EF lens it was always a bit of a wonder how much closer you could get before there was no more ability to focus. The the gauge in the EVF there no more guessing, and it really helps you use the lens to it's potential.

A video using the RF 400mm + 2x

Awesome viewing Rob.
As much as single shots are beautiful they don't convey the way the colours erupt around its neck as does this.
Amazing colour variations.
Interesting watching it breathe. It's whole body seems to move with each heartbeat. Assume that's what's going on.
Thanks for sharing

As Jay mentioned which I noticed also we now get a distance scale in the EVF when in manual focus which is easier viewing vs the distance scale window which is no longer on the RF 400mm or the RF Macro

Nice shot!!

That's one aspect I miss about AZ! We don't get quite the epic sunsets up here in UT as consistently

Yeah I'm beginning to think that 95% of night sky photography is all about finding the right foreground locations that are cohesive/interesting and can be matched in such way to add not take away from the photo.

Have to start scouting better locations with a more interesting foreground. This is my first Night Sky outing with R5. I use my Sigma Art 24-35 f/2

I don't own an R5 but I have discussed night photos with people... is the EVF just an option or is it a firmware update?

I wonder if Canon RF extension tubes communicate to the system and alter the focus distance info? Anyone try that?

Perhaps I expect too much genii-wish-like magic from the new communication protocol. I was hoping that RF would allow for leaf shutter operation in special lenses, too. Another thing would be two RF TCs with a tube in-between. Would they both alter EXIF? That would be very nice.

My copy of the RF 100mm f/2.8L IS lens showed up this morning. Here's the first shot from it. I think I'm going to like this lens quite a bit.

6-shot manual focus stack. No crop, just normal edits in Lightroom. Shot with a YN-24EX flash and Raynox DCR-250 on the end of the lens, which is my usual setup when I was shooting with the EF version.

The AF on this lens is MUCH better than the EF version I was using. So much smoother, faster and quieter.

Very useful comments. Most of the discussion I've seen about the RF 100 was about the SA control, which doesn't really interest me. But it sounds like its usability for macro has been improved as well.

I did not do anything special just mount the lens. Once I put it in manual focus it just appeared in the EVF or on the Screen. This is only with the RF lenses, not EF. I only tried it with the RF 400 and the RF 100mm Macro, not on any other RF lenses. I assume all RF lenses do this.

Tried it on my 24-105 and it didn't seem to be working. But I found the setting on Tab 7 of the Camera menu. Choices are AF only, MF only, always on, and disable. Mine was set to MF only.
