Went out with my new RF 100-500 and luckily there were some ducks.. So I was able to get an idea of its sharpness.. and.. WOW.

This thing is very very sharp.. almost super tele like... It smokes the EF 100-400 (which was already very very good) and there is no way a RF 600 or 800mm f/11 will come close to that IQ. So much fine detail, micro contrast.. I'm very! impressed.

Here is a duck portrait + a 100% crop.

You have a couple of photo bombers in the first photo that stole the show? :-P Looks like a couple of fire fighters or rescue team climbing the building that drew all of my attention away.

Yes - I wonder if they were doing some maintenance work?

Cheers

Dennis

I'm having a hard time seeing how that could be a 100% crop, unless you downsampled the entire image to about 5MP first, and then gave a 100% crop of that. The width of the crop is about 40 to 50% the width of the full image, but only about 1000 pixels by 800 pixels.

Weee! The new 50L is such an upgrade. To be able to track fast action and keep pinpoint focus is incredible.

Maybe flickr doesn't show the original size?

I exported the image in Full res and took a 3000x2000px crop out of that which I uploaded to flickr.

Looked at a few more shots.. they show an impressive amount of detail, fine detail, feather detail.. so far I'm very impressed.

When I clicked on the eyeglasses for the "100% crop", and then clicked on 100% pixel view, and then chose "inspect" from the browser's menus, it showed an image about 1000 pixels wide. That's what I was looking at, as I assumed that when you wrote "100%" you meant 100%, here, on this website. So, perhaps flickr had the 100% crop, but one never appeared here. To post a 100% crop here, it has to be less than 1600 pixels wide, AFAIK.

When I viewed the 100% crop here on this website, it looked "too sharp", as if it was not original pixels, but had been downsampled, possibly with Nearest Neighbor.

Found this guy/gal snoozing in the neighbours tree. He was kind enough to open his eyes for me!
